Meet Michael Terry

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michael Terry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michael below.

Hi Michael, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
It may sound strange but I found my purpose in life through death. After losing those closest to me, I realized that my life is only valuable if I can be of service to others. To deal with my deep grief, I started to find ways to do this. One of those ways was learning to become a better storyteller. I do this through visual arts, such as my abstract paintings and filmmaking, as well as creating beautiful images that bring joy to others. Nature is another way I find my purpose. I see endless inspiration in the spectacular range of colors, hues, and shapes found in flowers and the perfect design of every animal. I also believe that laughter is one of the best forms of medicine and I try to engage in laughter multiple times a day with whomever I come into contact with.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a visual artist and filmmaker. What I want people to understand most about me is that I truly love helping people. I create art to speak to people’s hearts and souls and leave them feeling excited about the present and the future. Each day is a blessing and sometimes the daily challenges we face can make us forget that life is a gift that is best when shared with others. My art is created to uplift people and make them aware of the fact that they are loved; even if they weren’t aware of it before. Sometimes this world can feel lonely because we’re all a little different and come from different places. For this reason, my art has universal messages of love and connection hidden within it. Sometimes I even use iconic figures in my art as symbols of humanity to touch, inspire, and motivate my audience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One of the most important skills I’ve learned is to live in the present moment and refer to the past only occasionally for reference and perspective. I’m also a very curious person who thrives on acquiring new skills and knowledge to improve myself and my ability to be of service to others. I’ve spent the last decade teaching myself computer visual special effects and it’s been one of the hardest things that I’ve ever done. It’s an endeavor that requires constant learning and a willingness to continually evolve and embrace change. Technology is such an exciting field to be part of because as soon as you think that you know all there is to know about something, there’s something new in front of you!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I always enjoy connecting with like-minded people who want to change the world in a positive way. As an artist and filmmaker, I want to meet and collaborate with individuals who desire to see and hear a different voice from what they witness everyday. Different thoughts and different visions inspire me. The beauty of hearing and understanding different perspectives is that it’s a great catalyst for solving problems and bringing people together in ways that can’t be done by only ourselves. We are stronger together.
