We recently connected with Michael Vater and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Growing up, I was often put into situations where I would not know others. As a youth, I attended summer programs both at Dickinson College and Franklin and Marshall University in the summers and I would be attending these programs with hundreds of other youths from across the country. I learned at a young age how to assimilate and develop such confidence. As I attended High School, I soon spent my summers at programs at Duke University. Again, I did not know anyone at any of these programs but developed relationships and confidence surrounded by other brilliant minds.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the managing partner of The Ticktin Law Group. I have been practicing law for 16 years both in my current home state of Florida and across the US. I have even been privileged to practice law internationally as well. In June, I traveled to Turks and Caicos for my first case in the Caribbean. One of the best parts of my job is that I never have the same day twice. I am always experiencing new challenges and adventures.
I have many long-term cases going to Trial and it is an exciting time as Trial is the ultimate culmination of the many hours of work up leading up to the Trial. I have also recently launched a new website, The Traveling Lawyer, as each week I travel across the US and world for my clients.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey include organization, passion, and optimism. The foundation of any success is staying organized. Those without organizational skills tend to fail as you need to have developed certain systems and processes to prioritize all that is occurring throughout the day. Being passionate about my career has led to significant successes as I always strive to do excellent work on behalf of my clients. I am passionate about the law and learning as much as I can about the law. Every day is a new day and yes, there are those days where I may have a rough day, but I am appreciative of the opportunities and always optimistic as tomorrow brings a fresh day!
I recommend those early in their journey to seek out mentors to help provide guidance and be willing to learn as much as possible from those mentors.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My parents have been most helpful in helping me build the essential skills, qualities, and knowledge. My parents have always taken a deep interest in ensuring that I make the best decisions and always are a great sounding pad whenever I need advice or support. It helps that my parents being a tremendous amount of life experiences that provide a frame of reference when answering my questions and providing me advice.
