Meet Michael Wisdom

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Wisdom a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I stumbled into my purpose by following what lit me up as a kid. I was the six-year-old lifting a barbell almost as big as me competing in Olympic-style weightlifting, fascinated not just by strength but by how the body works. That curiosity stayed with me through sports, college, and all the certifications I pursued. Over time I realized my favorite moments weren’t just coaching someone to hit a personal best — it was when their whole outlook changed because they finally understood their own body and what it could do.

That’s when it clicked: my purpose isn’t just to train people, it’s to translate the science of the human body into something anyone can use to improve their life. Wisdom Fitness became the vehicle for that, and later my book The Human Body User Manual gave me a way to scale it beyond the gym. Whether I’m training a golfer in Windermere, a corporate team in Chicago, or someone reading my book on the other side of the country, my purpose is the same — helping people feel empowered, capable, and in control of their own health.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

At Wisdom Fitness, I help people get stronger, move better, and feel more confident in their bodies — right in the comfort of their own homes. What excites me most is the personal connection: seeing the moment when a client realizes their body is capable of more than they thought, or when they feel their energy and mobility returning after years of frustration. For me, it’s about putting the personal back in personal training.

What makes this work special is that it’s never one-size-fits-all. Every client brings a different story, a different set of goals, and I get to design programs that meet them exactly where they are. Whether it’s helping a golfer improve their swing with better mobility, working with someone on post-injury strength, or simply helping a busy professional carve out time for their health, I get to be part of a meaningful transformation.

I’m also proud to have published The Human Body User Manual, a book that distills my 20+ years in fitness and wellness into a practical guide anyone can use. We all get instruction manuals for our phones and cars, but not for our own bodies — so I wrote the one I wish everyone had. It’s been amazing to see readers connect with it, and it’s given me another way to share this mission beyond one-on-one training.

Here in Windermere, FL, I’m excited to grow Wisdom Fitness within the community. I’ve just launched new in-home personal training services, golf-specific fitness programs, and mobility/strength coaching tailored to the unique needs of each client. I’ll also be hosting small wellness workshops and community events in the months ahead, because I want Wisdom Fitness to be more than a business — I want it to be a resource for health and wellness in the community.

At the end of the day, what I’d like folks to know is this: fitness doesn’t have to be intimidating, inconvenient, or complicated. With the right guidance, it can be accessible, empowering, and even fun. My brand is built on that philosophy — clear guidance, expert coaching, and a personal touch.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities stand out as most impactful in my journey.

First, curiosity. From the time I was a kid lifting weights, I wanted to know why the body worked the way it did. That curiosity drove me to study kinesiology, pursue certifications, and keep learning even after decades in the field. My advice: never stop asking questions. Read, listen, observe, and treat every client or project as a chance to learn something new.

Second, discipline. Training — whether for sport or for life — is about consistency over time. The same goes for building a career. Discipline is what carries you through the days when motivation is low or results feel slow. My advice: start small, build routines you can sustain, and let consistency compound into progress.

Third, communication. You can have all the knowledge in the world, but if you can’t explain it in a way people can understand and act on, it won’t change lives. That’s why I wrote The Human Body User Manual the way I did — to turn science into something practical and usable. My advice: practice breaking complex ideas into simple, relatable language. Use metaphors, stories, and visuals so that your knowledge doesn’t just sit in your head — it connects with people.

For anyone early in their journey, I’d say: nurture your curiosity, strengthen your discipline, and sharpen your ability to communicate. Those three skills will open doors and build trust, no matter what path you’re on.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, collaboration has always been a big part of my work, and I’m excited to build those connections here in Central Florida. I’m especially interested in partnering with:

Golf professionals and academies who want to integrate golf-specific fitness into their instruction. As a TPI Certified Golf Fitness Specialist, I can help players improve performance and reduce injury risk through tailored mobility and strength programs.

Healthcare providers — physical therapists, chiropractors, and physicians — who want trusted referral partners for patients who need safe, progressive strength and mobility training as part of their recovery or long-term wellness.

Local businesses and corporations interested in proactive wellness initiatives. I’ve built corporate wellness programs in Chicago, and I’d love to bring that same expertise to companies here in Florida.

Community organizations — from HOAs to schools to local clubs — where I can offer workshops, talks, or events that help residents and members better understand their health and fitness.

If you’re reading this and would like to collaborate, the best way to connect is through my website wisdomfitnesstraining.com, or directly via email at [email protected]. I’d love to start a conversation about how we can support each other’s work and make a positive impact in the community.
