Meet Micheal Ray

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Micheal Ray. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Micheal below.

Micheal, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

From having a tough life. From an early age i have always faced adversity. Foster care, homelessness, prison, drug addiction, amputation, family suicide, child’s death…whether it was due to my situation or the choices I’ve made, I’ve always had to overcome big life obstacles. Therefore, I have become resilient as hell!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

First and foremost, I am an actor. I started acting at the age of 50. Now at 57 I have credits on NBC, HBO, Netflix and Apple TV as well as many movies and commercials. I am also disabled having had my lower leg amputated after a nasty motorcycle accident 12 years ago. Originally from west Texas, I now reside near the Catalina Mountains in Arizona.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I think my stubbornness helped me the most. My never give up attitude has taken me places a lot of actors will never go. I’m proud of that. Cause although I may have been scared out of my mind working with some of the stars I have worked with, I never quit, I never gave in to those negative self-thoughts. Thats the key to my rise.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Truthfully, if it were not for my lady, I would not have accomplished most things I have. I tell her all the time she is the only reason I am not dead or back in prison. But seriously, there is no one else who has supported me and rooted me on like her. She is definately my rock.
