Meet Michele Moore

We recently connected with Michele Moore and have shared our conversation below.

Michele, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic is a direct result of my upbringing. My mother, Alma, was an incredibly strong and resilient woman. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York, she instilled in me the importance of hard work and perseverance.

I remember her stories of sewing with her grandmother and making her own clothes, even during tough times. She was a home economics teacher, and her entrepreneurial spirit was contagious.

From a young age, I was exposed to her side hustles, selling everything from crafts to clothing. I helped her with her business whenever I could, and I learned valuable lessons about hard work, determination, and resourcefulness.

My mother always taught me to strive for excellence, not just for personal gain, but for the sake of being a good and kind person. Her values have guided me throughout my life, and they continue to inspire me today as I run The Bone Boutique.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m Michele Moore, the founder of Bone Boutique, a unique business that blends art and nature. We specialize in creating stunning jewelry and sculptures from ethically sourced animal bones. Each piece tells a story, reflecting the beauty and resilience of the natural world.

We source our materials responsibly, ensuring that every piece has a positive impact on the environment. Our goal is to create art that not only inspires but also contributes to a more sustainable future.

My latest passion project is combining the timeless beauty of bones with the vibrant colors of watercolor. I’ve been experimenting with painting directly onto bones, creating intricate designs and patterns that highlight the natural textures and shapes of the material. This new collection, which we’re still naming, features delicate floral motifs and vibrant hues. Our previous collection, “Garden Party,” showcased paper flowers adorning bone pieces. This new series takes the floral theme to the next level, with each piece a unique blend of nature’s artistry.

What sets Bone Boutique apart is our commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing. We source our materials responsibly, ensuring that every piece has a positive impact on the environment. Our goal is to create art that not only inspires but also contributes to a more sustainable future.

Beyond our products, we’re passionate about giving back to the community. We regularly participate in local events and support various City of North Port initiatives and local fine art shows. Our goal is to inspire others to appreciate and protect the environment through art.

I’m also excited to announce that I’ll be teaching an art entrepreneurship class at the Ringling College Englewood Art Center in Englewood Florida, this fall. The course will cover topics like pricing strategies, marketing, and building an art business.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Resilience and Perseverance: The path to entrepreneurship is often filled with challenges and setbacks. Resilience and perseverance are essential qualities for navigating these obstacles and staying motivated.

Advice: Don’t be discouraged by failures or setbacks. Learn from your mistakes and use them as opportunities for growth. Stay focused on your long-term goals and keep moving forward.

2. Creativity and Innovation: As an artist and entrepreneur, creativity and innovation are key to standing out in a competitive market.

Advice: Continuously challenge yourself to think outside the box and explore new ideas. Seek inspiration from diverse sources, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques and approaches.

3. Passion and Purpose: A deep-rooted passion for your work is what will drive you through the toughest times. Having a clear purpose and understanding the impact of your work can provide immense motivation.

Advice: Reflect on what truly drives you and why you started your business. Connect with your passion on a daily basis, and let it fuel your efforts.

These three qualities have been instrumental in my journey with Bone Boutique. They’ve helped me overcome challenges, stay motivated, and create unique and meaningful pieces of art.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

My biggest area of growth has been in authenticity and transparency in our content. I’ve learned the importance of sharing genuine stories and connecting with our audience on a personal level. This has been especially valuable for building trust and loyalty within our community.

Additionally, networking with the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce has been instrumental in expanding our reach and visibility. By actively participating in local events and building relationships with other businesses, we’ve been able to connect with a wider audience and showcase the unique value of Bone Boutique.
