We recently connected with Michelle and have shared our conversation below.
Michelle, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
To be frank, I get my resilience from being super stubborn. Sometimes that’s a bad trait to have, obviously, but it’s proven to be quite effective when I’ve been knocked down. When I set my mind to something, I’m going to achieve it, no matter how long or hard it may be. I’ve learned that my resilience has also been influenced by the people I’m surrounded by. Currently, I’ve been hanging with like-minded people who are also encouraging to me as well. This has been a game-changer as far as finding joy in the work, rather than just trudging through it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a pop singer-songwriter from Las Vegas, currently based in Nashville. I’m also an aspiring producer for many genres besides pop and that has been the most exciting part of my journey so far. I’ve had wonderful opportunities to work with artists across many genres that have influenced my own music. I think the most special part about me and what I offer as a producer and artist is my willingness to genre-bend and just experiment. Music doesn’t have rules and people who think so will fall behind. The best thing that has happened this year so far has been graduating college! I had been working full-time while doing full-time school and playing music. As one can imagine, it was very overwhelming, but now I have much more free time to truly dive into my music career.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’m still in the start of my journey, but already I can tell which skills would’ve launched me further if I harnessed them more. People pursuing a music career should be: open-minded, determined, and hard-working. Keeping an open perspective about music and the industry will help musicians adapt to its constant changing. Determination is an obvious one, but it’s probably the most important. Musicians need to remember their “why” with music and pursue it relentlessly with keeping their reason at their core. Being able to work extremely hard is the result of those two things. Even though the journey may look long (trust me, it still looks that way to me), taking the first step-by-steps will open doors you can’t even imagine.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My fiancé. He has been my rock through all of this. He believes and loves me fully and accepts me for every part of what I am. He has helped me change to what we need to be in order to take on this career.
