We recently connected with Michelle Boucher and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
For me it’s always a work in progress. Rearing it’s head is very situational. Such as being in a new environment, doing something new, or being surrounded by people I don’t know. I’m constantly reminding myself that I am here because I deserve to be. I’m doing this thing because I am of worthy of it. It’s a personal battle that I’m determined to face.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I strive to create art that people can have an emotional attachment to. Art that is personal and created with love and the utmost care.
The connection between humans and the animal world is what inspires me. The magic between us. Whether that relationship is with a beloved pet or an animal you admire or even fear.
The pet portraits are near and dear to my heart. I’m a pet owner, and I also know the heartache of saying goodbye to one. I hope each portrait can ease the pain, even just a little.
“Soul Animals” is my interpretation of the coexistence with the animal world. I want to get mystical with it. Can we embody the essence of an animal or become one with them? With art, anything is possible. The symbolism and meaning behind each creature are reimagined with its human counterpart. Unsure of your Soul Animal, I can interview you so that we may find one that resonates with you.
“The Fortunate Hand” series is my homage to the magical, the mystical, and the fortune tellers of my childhood stories. Painted with acrylic on an articulated wood hand. I incorporate alchemical, astrology, and zodiac elements. The rest is a true collaboration between me and the collector. Every art piece is one of a kin
Tattooing. Ah tattooing. I’m just learning and hoping to expand my canvas to the human skin with the same carefull and thoughtful intent I approach painting. To bring a sacredness to the practice
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Do what you do for you first. Everything else is secondary.
Do what you love. For me, if it doesn’t bring me joy it’s not worth doing. (Situational, of course)
Be open to the possibilities. Opportunites may present themselves in unexpected ways. Stay open.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
“Be Water My Friend” teachings of Bruce Lee written by his daughter Shannon Lee. We’re all familar Bruce Lee the martial artist, very few know that he was a philosopher first. It encourages one to fluid in life while being a force to be reckoned with.
