Meet Michelle Carlen

We were lucky to catch up with Michelle Carlen recently and have shared our conversation below.

Michelle, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

To develop confidence and strong self-esteem it’s important to understand that a lack of personal confidence stems from held beliefs. Here’s the top four beliefs that cause a lack of confidence.

1. Belief that perceived faults are greater than one’s strengths

2. Seeing mistakes as permanent failure

3. Someone’s negative opinion of them stuck

4. As a result of a life event like job loss

Understanding that a bad thing that happened to you does not dictate who you are or your abilities and inhibit your potential for success.

Confidence start with practicing things that are out of your comfort zone. Trying new things, meeting new people and learning something you are not familiar with naturally help build confidence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a business owner, executive, leadership coach, artist and beach lover!

I started my company six year ago after spending a lengthy career in business management.

Alignment Advising supports organizations, business leaders, and business professionals in becoming higher performing individuals and companies – creating positive impacts for themselves, their employees, clients, and the communities that they engage with.

Our services not only boost individual confidence, communication, and leadership but also create a positive ripple effect throughout the community. By empowering individuals and organizations, we foster a culture of growth and collaboration that contributes to meaningful social impact.

My own work and personal experiences over the years has given me unique insights and perspectives into challenges that many face in the work place and throughout their career. I apply all that I have learned to help others gain knowledge and perspective of their own so they can become more confident and find successful. Not only does my background include vast business experience, my life as an artist and a creative gives a more balanced approach to tackling issues that businesses and individuals face.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities or skills that have supported me in my journey have been building the following:

Adaptability

Continuous performance improvement

Empathy

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Learning that the journey to our destination (s) is more important than the destination itself.

Many people are eager to meet goals, check off boxes or focus on some point in the future when they will have reached their success.

Reaching goals or finding success happens one step at a time and through an extended period of time.

Approaching life in this mindset helps for you to enjoy the present moment and learn from every bridge you cross.
