Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michelle Cella . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Michelle , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I have always been involved in fashion in some way, beginning as far back as 15 years old and working at a (fashion forward at the time!) store called Cignal. I went in to be a fashion retail major at Syracuse and had various jobs in the fashion industry. I took a turn and worked in a different profession for a few years but eventually returned to what I love best, being a stylist. Confidence isnt entirely natural and something that’s always evolving and i need to work on, but I found that being confident came easier when working in a field I love and knew I was good at. Styling and fashion always just came easy to me. You see the glow in a clients face when they look in the mirror and like what they see. It’s not shallow or shameful to put time into self care and enjoy what you wear. Every woman feels better and more confident when they feel good in their outfit! I literally can see the smile emerge on a clients face when she starts to feel good about herself. And in turn, my confidence develops by knowing I can help them Find their spark again!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have a personal styling business called Styled By Michelle3. I am a stylist and personal shopper for women who are feeling a bit stuck in a rut and want to begin to feel good about themselves again! As busy moms we all tend to put the focus on everyone but ourselves and this is about taking a minute to find your spark again! A lot of my clients also feel simply overwhelmed with the million trends and want to stay current without feeling like they are dressing like their daughters. I help Them find the balance in their wardrobe and get rid of the clutter. We focus on creating an easy cohesive wardrobe built in beautify basics! I try to encourage functional, comfortable and interchangeable pieces rather than what I call a bunch of “one and dones!” One and done pieces are items that we all tend to buy that can basically be worn one time and then are tucked away waiting for an event that rarely occurs. I also work with many busy professionals/moms who simply don’t have the time or desire to shop for upcoming events or trips and I help with that as well. I also have moved into the social media Influencer category which was not something I ever thought I would do! But people seem to enjoy it and it also makes it easy to purchase items through my links LTK and ShopMy both linked in my social media profile @styledbymichelle3
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Stay true to yourself and what you feel good wearing. I think from a young age I watched my mom always look effortlessly chic. I learned to invest in timeless items you love, that you will always have and make you feel good when you put them on. I was always able to look at fashion and current trends and tailor it to the individual person. We won’t all love every trend and it would be exhausting to try to keep up! But we can all find the fun new pieces that work on our bodies and with our style. I think the ability to see that in each client and see them as an individual and not just recommend the same pieces to everyone is what has helped me most in this field . I also end up being friends with most of my clients because they know there is no judgement! I’m 49, a mom of two young girls, I have had 2 c-sections, I have the same insecurities about my body as all my clients! I think they feel comfortable with me because I relate to how they feel and am there to help get their confidence back!
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is the mom that is feeling stuck in rut! We all feel it and it’s okay to take the time and opportunity to do something for yourself. Many women feel that hiring a stylist would be too much of a self indulgence or feel that I would judge their wardrobe. They also feel I will only recommend pricey items which is not at all the case! And the funny thing is, within five minutes of working with a client, I always see the same thing..the shoulders relax, the smile show up, and I see the joy again in getting dressed, not the dread! And of course we all wear leggings and sweats! I just show them the right ones to get 😉
