Meet Michelle “ChefMitchie” Curran

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michelle “ChefMitchie” Curran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Michelle “ChefMitchie”, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Being the only one in the room has taught me the power of showing up fully as myself. When I first started Mitchies Munchies, I often found myself surrounded by people who didn’t look like me, bake like me, or dream like me. Instead of seeing that as a disadvantage, I learned to see it as my superpower.

My differences became my distinction — in flavor, in design, and in the way I connect with people. I leaned into my creativity, my cultural roots, and my storytelling through sweets. Over time, I realized that authenticity speaks louder than conformity. By staying true to who I am and the joy I pour into my work, I’ve been able to build a brand that celebrates individuality and invites others to do the same.

Being the only one in the room isn’t easy, but it reminds me that representation matters — and that every time I take up space, I make room for someone else to feel seen and inspired.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hello fraaannnddds! I am Michelle Curran aka “ChefMitchie”, a Cake & Sugar Artist based in Las Vegas, NV. Nicknamed “Femme Fatale of Fondant”, by NV Pageant Magazine and BEST CAKE ARTIST by Las Vegas Weekly Readers. My career in cake artistry has led me to compete locally, nationally, on Food Network and other streaming services, shaping me to be an award winning food artist.

My truest passion as a Private cake Artist for hire is creating custom cake and sugar art for clients, which have included World Renowned DJs, celebrities, and athletes; it keeps me nestled inside my Las Vegas studio.

I often travel the country performing product demos and teaching the craft of cake decorating in person and online to ages 5 and up. I am recognized and appreciated as a product expert, a “Wizard behind the Curtains”, and a Brand Ambassador for several cake and candy decorating tool companies.

I consider myself fortunate to have earned ceritification as an International Sugar Art Judge and World Food Judge. I’ve been invited to Judge cake and food competitions all over North America.

A big part of my heart, everyday, icingsmiles.org. Not only am I a volunteer Sugar Angel, she I have been sponsoring the State of Nevada since 2014.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three things have shaped my journey the most: resilience, creativity, and connection.

Resilience taught me to keep going when things didn’t go as planned — and in small business, that happens a lot. From long nights in the studio to moments of doubt, I learned that success isn’t about never falling; it’s about getting back up with more purpose each time. My advice to others is to expect challenges, but don’t take them as signs you’re failing — take them as proof that you’re growing.

Creativity has been my constant companion. Mitchies Munchies was built on imagination — turning simple ingredients into art that makes people smile. Whether it’s a whimsical cake or a sugar-free pastry, creativity has allowed me to stand out in a crowded space. For anyone starting out, I’d say: don’t be afraid to experiment. Let your curiosity lead you, and make room for play, even in business.

Connection has been the heart of everything. From my customers to my community, every relationship has helped my business thrive. The people who believe in your work are your greatest asset. Listen to them, learn from them, and build with them.

My best advice: stay true to your vision, but flexible in your methods. The journey won’t always look like you imagined, but if you lead with resilience, creativity, and connection, it will always be worth it.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

At Mitchies Munchies, I love collaborating with like-minded folks and brands who share an affinity for creativity, community, and joy.

Whether it’s through artful desserts, styled events, or storytelling that celebrates flavor and imagination, I’m always drawn to folks who believe in creating experiences that make others FEEL something special.

I’m especially excited to connect with fellow small business owners, artists, makers, photographers, event planners, and brands that value authenticity with a touch of whimsy. Collaboration, to me, is about bringing unique talents together to create magic.

Let’s dream up something sweet together! 🍰✨! You can reach me directly through my website at mitchiesmunchies.com or connect with me on social media @mitchiesmunchies.
