Meet Michelle Hu

We recently connected with Michelle Hu and have shared our conversation below.

Michelle, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Growing up, I was never the person that people would compliment or start a conversation with. I never really understood what being confident was like, as I was the shyest person you would ever meet. I hated the way I looked, dressed, and talked. People would make fun of me and call me the shy quiet girl who loves school. It was not untill I started creating content online during my sophomore year of highschool, out of boredem of covid, that I slowly found a new wave of confident. Creating content is something that I actually enjoyed doing, and whenever it came to days where I would dress up and take photos, those are the days I feel good about myself. I know it may seem silly as dressing up and taking photos will make me feel more confident but it made me feel good about myself. I knew that this was something no one could take away from me. I may have gotten bullied for it back in high school but having that new found confidence, I did not think much about it. It was not untill college where I found out that I can make money off of my content. Now, college is where I gained more and more confident, with content creating and myself. I like to beileve that social media was my blessing in disguse.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hello! My name is Michelle Hu, I am a 19-year-old content creator based in Los Angeles California. Right now I am currently attending California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a major in statistics and an intended minor in economics. Although I am a full-time student in stem and am highly involved around my college campus. I will be a residential advisor along with the social chair of our College of Science and Math and the Fundraising Chair for our Chinese Student Association. I will still always have free time to pursue content creation as I love to create content for different brands. Over the last few years, I had developed a huge passion for content creation these last few years as I have found joy in user-generated content. I post lifestyle vlogs, product reviews, and college advice. Over the years, I had long-term partnerships with Hollister, Innisfree, O Ogranics, Fabfitfun, and CeraVe. I love creating and sharing content that is meaningful and realistic. One special thing about content creation is that it always feels like a full-circle moment when I get to work with a brand I adore. It feels like a dream come true getting an emailing saying “Congratulations you have been selected’ or “collaboration opportunity from..”

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, I consider adaptability, persistence, and creativity to be my foremost strengths. My initial college experience was challenging, with numerous external issues affecting my academic priorities. However, through the process of adapting swiftly and embracing risk-taking, I have also gained effective time management skills. To those aspiring to tread the path of content creation while pursuing a STEM degree, I offer this one piece of advice: “Being on the dual journey of content creation and a STEM education is an exciting yet demanding path, as it won’t be easy to manage, but it will be a journey worth fighting for. go pull out your camera and start romanticizing your life”

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
I would say overall, the biggest area of improvement is my overall confidence as a physical trait and as a mental trait. I feel like a person, I have grown to be a better person and feel more confident. I used to look at myself in the mirror and hate the way i looked or the stuff I posted. I would have an Instagram reposted three different times and would delete it every time. When it comes to my content, I no longer post content that I would love to delete anymore and I have seen myself being proud of my own worth. I have finally found my true passion and it is something high school me would never expect to see.
