We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michelle Mueller. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michelle below.
Michelle, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Optimism is so powerful. I always try to stay positive. I think it stems from my anxiety disorder. When you are anxious as often as I am, you start to change your thinking patterns. Instead of thinking of all the negative aspects of a certain situation, I try to focus on the positive. I would also say my husband has picked up some of this from me as well.
I’m not always great at having optimism though. I struggle at times too. Sometimes when my content isn’t performing well, I get in my own head. I try my best to remember that everything ebbs and flows, and it’s okay to have those down times. Instead of moping about it, I try to turn to optimism.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started sharing content in March of 2022. I started by sharing parks and libraries. I started getting DMs from people asking for more information, so I decided to start and instagram page. Originally I was called Play STL, but since have rebranded to Michelle in STL.
I share all things local to St. Louis. I share events, programs, summer camps, new restaurants, play spaces, local businesses, you name it. I was born and raised in St. Louis and truly love this city.
I think what is the most special about my Instagram is that I try to be authentically me. I talk daily on stories to my followers like they are my own friends. I’ve built so many friendships from this platform and truly love what I do.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Authenticity- Be yourself. Anyone can start an Instagram page but not everyone can give what you have to offer. Followers can see the real you and in my experience, people love that.
2. Consistency- stay consistent with posting content. Even if it’s not performing well, keep posting. Consistency is how you build a community of followers and engagement.
3. Confidence- be confident in your content and what you have to offer.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed by social media, I take a step back. Instagram will always be there. My family is growing and changing everyday and that’s what matters most to me. I find it I’m too consumed in my content, I’m missing out on my kids and that’s the last thing i want to do. Taking a break from social media is okay, and so helpful in the long run.
