Meet Michelle Prince

We were lucky to catch up with Michelle Prince recently and have shared our conversation below.

Michelle , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I’m not sure that anyone completely overcomes imposter syndrome for good. It can creep in at any time, especially as you grow your platform and influence, but I’ve found ways to tame the lion, so to speak, so that I can focus on what really matters; following my calling and serving others. One of the ways I’ve been able to quiet the doubts, uncertainty and “noise” in my head is to realize that it’s not about me. My story is intended to serve others…it’s a gift and gifts are meant to be shared. When I start to feel imposter syndrome rear its ugly head, that’s a warning sign that my focus isn’t where it needs to be. When we’re too much “in our heads,” worried about what people think, questioning ourselves by asking “who do we think we are?” and letting those doubts hold you back, that’s when imposter syndrome can overtake you. But, when you realize that you were created to make a difference, shine your light and boldly step into all that you were created to be, then and only then, can you release yourself from playing small and step into becoming the real you.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am CEO and Founder of Performance Publishing, which is a partner publishing company. I’ve helped thousands tell their stories and am dedicated to making a difference, one story at a time. I am a best-selling author, motivational speaker, publishing expert, leadership coach, host of The Power of Authority Spotlight podcast, and a Ziglar Legacy Certified speaker/trainer. My team and I are dedicated to helping people share their stories to grow their business, create more opportunities and preserve their legacy. We are currently launching the Book Bound Academy which will be an ultimate destination for aspiring authors to give them everything they need to write, publish and market their books. We also provide free strategy calls to help soon-to-be authors understand their next steps and help them find the right path to publishing. I am married to my husband Chris and have two sons, Austin and Tyler, and have a passion for the ocean and pugs! What drives me is seeing everyone succeed in their personal & professional goals and realize an abundant life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Belief, faith, and positive expectations. Your beliefs about yourself and what you’re capable of doing are critical to moving yourself closer to your dreams and goals. It’s the foundation for all that you can accomplish in life. As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can or think you can, your right!” When we have confidence in ourselves and our ability to accomplish our dreams, then that is the rocket fuel to accelerate your journey. It starts with you! In addition, you also need faith and living with positive expectations about your future to keep you going when the going gets tough. There will always be obstacles in business and life, but when you do your best, believe in yourself and have faith that things will work out the way they should, then you can get through any difficult season. I’ve heard it said that faith is the opposite of fear; you can’t have both at the same time. It’s a choice. Will you choose to let fear keep you from living your best life and making an impact or will you choose faith, belief in yourself and positive expectations so that you can accomplish what you were created to do?

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Bible has played the most valuable role in my journey, hands down. Without it, I would be lost. But, outside of the Bible, there are a few other books that really helped me to accelerate my journey in business and life. The first was “See You at The Top” by Zig Ziglar. I worked for Zig right out of college, and I learned so much of what it means to be “successful.” It wasn’t money, it wasn’t accolades, it was making a difference in someone else’s life. The principles in “See You at The Top” lay the foundation to this kind of success and I’m so grateful that I read this book when I was very young and have been able to apply it to my life. The 2nd book that had a big impact on me was “The e-Myth” by Michael E. Gerber. I started my business in 2009 but I had no idea how to run a business. This book helped me to see that passion alone does not bring success in a business. It takes processes, systems and a plan to get where I want to go. In the first two years I made so many mistakes in my business, but thankfully I read this book not long after and was able to get back on track and create plans for sustained success going forward.
