Meet Michelle Stubbs

We recently connected with Michelle Stubbs and have shared our conversation below.

Michelle, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I know it’s the old know adage what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger but it is so true.

From life’s knock backs big or small you learn, you grow, you build the resilience that those lessons teach you.

Personally I had dealt with the death of a spouse, the emotional and financial hardship that came with that and dealing with matters I never thought I’d have to at a young age, but you have no other choice than to find that strength and continue through. Now when I’m faced with problems I don’t see them as problems, I see them as challenges and take away the fear and instead use logic.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My passions were always in hosting events and creating beautiful spaces to entertain. When I was faced with a dilemma with what to do with my country home in Cheshire I decided to let the lakeside country Manor House out for family holiday vacations. Within a matter of weeks I was inundated with requests from couples who had been searching high and low for such a property to get married! It made complete sense to me to utilise this beautiful property to make couples dreams come true! The house has a wonderful history of aristocracy, presidents, royalty and more recently pop stars! We now create unique and bespoke weddings for over 100 lucky couples a year.

With the recent changes in UK marriage rules we can now offer numerous outdoor ceremony locations including woodland and lakeside! It’s so exciting!

We are also in the process of developing our sister venue, a stunning Victorian pumphouse which will be restored to its former glory to host bohemian, whimsical dream weddings. I’m delighted to get this project off the ground and it offers something completely different to the Manor House and will be completely unique! The Pumphouse at Delamere Manor will be completed in 2025 and is already getting booked up!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I studied to become and lawyer which taught me to be very analytical, problem solving and to do thorough research. The skills I learnt also helped me navigate my way through the legalities of setting up a business and the added complexities of licenses that apply to a ceremony venue and a licensed premises.

I certainly didn’t know everything! I think not being afraid to ask for help and to listen to other professionals is invaluable. You’ll be surprised how many people love to give their time to help new entrepreneurs and hopefully help them avoid the inevitable pitfalls that occur during the process.

It’s a never ending learning experience. I still read a lot and attend regular courses and keep looking at the changing environment and trends as these all have an impact on your business. If you don’t keep evolving you will get left behind!
