We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Miguel Berlingeri. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Miguel below.

Miguel , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

The road trip not only traversed physical landscapes but also unraveled the layers of my own narrative. As the wheels rolled across ten states, a newfound desire crystallized within me – the yearning to tell stories that could serve as beacons for those navigating the same shadowed paths I once trod. The journey led me to a profound realization: that through the art of storytelling, I could extend a lifeline to others who, like me, had grappled with the darkness.

Fueled by this purpose, I decided to delve deeper into the craft of storytelling. This resolve materialized in my decision to attend film school, where I could harness the tools of acting and cinematography to breathe life into narratives that resonated with the struggles of the human spirit. The classroom became my canvas, and the camera, my paintbrush, as I explored the art of visual storytelling.

Film school became more than an educational pursuit; it was a transformative odyssey that allowed me to refine my voice and perspective. Through the lens of a camera, I sought to capture the nuances of human experience, the triumphs, and the tribulations, in a way that spoke to those grappling with their own internal battles.

Acting and cinematography became my vehicles for empathy, transporting audiences into the realms of vulnerability and strength. The characters I portrayed and the stories I crafted aimed to serve as whispers of hope for those standing at the edge of despair.

In this creative expedition, I discovered a profound synergy between personal healing and the power of cinematic expression. The road trip was not just a physical journey but a metaphorical one, guiding me to the intersection of my passion for storytelling and the mission to illuminate the path out of the darkness.

And so, at the age of 54, I proudly walked across the stage, receiving my bachelor’s degree in film production from Full Sail University. Graduating at this juncture in my life symbolized more than academic achievement – it represented the resilience of the human spirit and the perpetual journey of self-discovery. Armed with newfound knowledge, creative skills, and a commitment to storytelling, I embarked on the next chapter of my life, ready to weave narratives that resonated with the human experience and offered a guiding light to those traversing their own tumultuous paths.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My journey into acting wasn’t just a creative pursuit; it became a profound form of emotional self-exploration that played a pivotal role in dealing with PTSD and depression. As I navigated the winding roads of my life, the therapeutic nature of acting emerged as a beacon, guiding me through the tumultuous seas of my own emotions.

What excites me most about acting is the opportunity it provides for authentic expression. It’s a transformative process where I can delve into the depths of different characters, peeling back layers and uncovering aspects of myself that may have remained hidden. This emotional journey has been a powerful tool for navigating the challenges of mental health, offering a cathartic outlet and a means to connect with the universal human experience.

What sets my brand of storytelling apart is the intersection of personal healing and cinematic expression. Through the lens of a camera, I aim to capture the raw, unfiltered essence of the human experience, shedding light on the struggles and triumphs that weave the tapestry of our lives. The narratives I craft are not just stories; they are whispers of resilience and hope, reaching out to those who may be grappling with their own shadows.

As I stand at the crossroads of my journey, having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in film production at the age of 54, I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. This academic milestone not only signifies achievement but serves as a testament to the continual evolution of my artistic voice.

Looking forward, I am exploring new avenues in storytelling, seeking to push boundaries and challenge conventional narratives. The road trip that ignited this transformative chapter in my life continues to inspire my work, infusing it with authenticity and a deep understanding of the human spirit.

In terms of new developments, stay tuned for upcoming projects that delve into the heart of emotional narratives, navigating the complexities of life with a lens of empathy and understanding. Whether through film, acting, or other creative endeavors, my commitment remains unwavering – to create art that resonates, heals, and sparks a connection among those who experience it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out as particularly impactful:

Resilience: The ability to bounce back from adversity was a cornerstone of my journey. Life has its share of challenges, and resilience became my compass, guiding me through the storms. Cultivate resilience by embracing setbacks as opportunities for growth. Understand that each obstacle is a stepping stone, not a roadblock. Surround yourself with a support system that encourages and uplifts you, and don’t be afraid to seek help when needed.

Self-Exploration through Acting: Acting became a powerful tool for self-exploration, especially in dealing with PTSD and depression. The emotional depth that acting demands allowed me to navigate the labyrinth of my own emotions. For those embarking on a similar journey, I advise delving into activities that offer avenues for self-expression. Whether it’s through the arts, writing, or any creative outlet, use it as a mirror to understand yourself better. Embrace vulnerability as a source of strength.

Continuous Learning and Adaptability: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in film production at the age of 54 emphasized the importance of continuous learning and adaptability. The world is ever-evolving, and being open to new knowledge and experiences is crucial. Stay curious and embrace a growth mindset. Seek out opportunities to expand your skill set and knowledge base. Whether through formal education, workshops, or self-directed learning, stay committed to personal and professional growth.

For those early in their journey:

Embrace the Journey: Understand that the journey is as important as the destination. Embrace the highs and lows, as each experience contributes to your growth and resilience.

Find Your Creative Outlet: Explore different avenues for self-expression. Whether it’s through art, writing, music, or another form of creativity, find what resonates with you and use it as a medium for self-discovery.

Cultivate a Growth Mindset: Approach challenges with a mindset focused on growth. See obstacles as opportunities to learn and adapt. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone; that’s where true growth occurs.

Build a Support System: Surround yourself with a supportive community. Share your journey with those who uplift and inspire you. Seek guidance from mentors and peers who have walked similar paths.

Never Stop Learning: The journey is a continual process of learning and adapting. Stay curious, be open to new experiences, and actively seek opportunities for personal and professional development.

Remember, each step, no matter how small, contributes to the larger narrative of your journey. Embrace it with an open heart and a willingness to discover the profound layers of your own story.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When life gets crazy, I slow things down by taking a breather. It’s like pressing pause on the chaos and figuring out what’s really bugging me. Step one: hit pause. Get into the groove of breathing. Inhale the good stuff, exhale the stress.
Step two: Take a step back from the craziness in your head and jot down what’s messing with your vibe. Break it down like you’re dissecting the elements of a storm. Now, split those stormy elements into two groups – things you can deal with and things you can’t. The stuff you can tackle is like your DIY project. Time to make some moves. The other stuff, it’s like the weather – no control, just roll with it.
For the things you can handle, lay out a plan. Figure out the steps to untangle the mess and find some peace. Take control and be the boss of your own show.
At the same time, acknowledge the things out of your control. Like a laid-back guru, let go of the unnecessary worry. Realize that the only real turf you’ve got is yourself – your body and your feelings. It’s like grabbing the wheel and navigating through the storm with a calm head.
So, in this crazy ride of life, hitting pause and finding that breathing rhythm isn’t just a trick – it’s the real deal that turns chaos into clarity. When things go haywire, I find my peace in the mindfulness groove and the power of being the captain of my own ship.
