Meet Miguel Juarez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Miguel Juarez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Miguel below.

Miguel, thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
The key to effective communication is listening. Each person has a different way of hearing, listening, and communicating. By listening to someone else talking, you can pick up cues as to how they would like to be talked to as well. Everyone wants a turn to talk. If you give people that right away, the chances of them listening to you in return will definitely increase. If both parties are able to listen to each other and talk, then communication is effective. Doing that openly without one or both parties getting offended is an entirely different conversation.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I see myself primarily as a writer. Even though I am more known for being a guitarist throughout my career, I believe it is my writer’s mentality that fuels my drive and creativity. I have published my grandfather Facundo Bautista’s autobiography “Reach For Your Dream”, as well as written and self published a fiction novella called “Where’s Fernando.” A music career was never my dream as a child or plan in life. I just enjoyed coming up with stories, and songwriting was one of the ways I tried. I eventually got good at playing guitar and just stuck to it throughout whatever jobs I was working. Like a sport, I kept working on my guitar game, and kept elevating my output until I reached a semi-professional level. I am now mostly making a living playing music. However, because I treat it like a sport, I believe performing live is something that I will eventually retire from. As much as I enjoy jamming with my musical brothers and sisters, writing is really where my heart is. Maybe I will finally learn to formally read and write music. Never say never.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My favorite novel of all time is “Siddhartha” by Herman Hesse. When asked what he could do, the protagonist would always answer, “I can think, I can wait, and I can fast.” He would eventually master any task appointed to him. I still hold these three skills as the most important in life. In modern terms, these can be reinterpreted as adaptability, patience, and endurance. Using these three skills, I believe you can overcome any challenge.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Every success I have is a direct result of a good relationship. I have been lucky enough to have met so many incredible people and learned from each one. It would be unfair to rate their level of impact on my life. I will say that my mother’s side encouraged a sense of pride, while my father’s side taught humility by example. Each of these have had a huge impact on how I make decisions in life, and I am still learning how to discern properly every day.
