We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mika McClain. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mika below.
Mika, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from trusting myself, trusting the unknown, and knowing that no matter what happens, I will figure it out.
Life has tested me in so many ways, through childhood trauma, becoming a young mother, and stepping into entrepreneurship without a clear path. But through it all, I’ve learned that resilience isn’t just about pushing through hardship; it’s about believing in yourself even when things feel uncertain.
I also get my resilience from my son. He’s been my greatest motivation. When things get tough, I remind myself that I’m not just doing this for me, I’m doing it to break cycles, to show him what’s possible, and to give him a life where he sees that challenges don’t define you, how you respond to them does.
I get my resilience from trusting the unknown. We don’t have control over everything, and that used to scare me. But I’ve learned that when you stop resisting uncertainty and instead lean into it, life has a way of unfolding in ways better than you could have planned.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder of two purpose driven brands, Luminis Energy and Wonderful Me. Luminis Energy helps property owners turn their unused parking spaces into EV charging stations. It’s a simple but powerful way to expand EV infrastructure and create passive income while supporting sustainability.
Wonderful Me is rooted in emotional wellness. I created the Wonderful Me Journal and the Wonderful Teen Journal to help kids and teens build self-awareness, confidence, and trust in themselves. These tools are designed to spark reflection and emotional growth, something I believe is missing in a lot of childhood education today.
What makes both brands special is that they’re deeply intentional.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Emotional Intelligence
Understanding my own emotions, triggers, and thought patterns has been one of the most transformative parts of my journey. It’s helped me become a better mother, businesswoman, and human. Emotional intelligence gives you the ability to pause before reacting, to choose love over fear, and to connect with others more deeply.
Advice: Start small, journal, practice mindfulness, read books on self-awareness, or talk to a therapist. Emotional intelligence isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being honest with yourself and open to growth.
Resilience
Nothing about my journey has been easy. But resilience has carried me through every challenge, every moment of self-doubt, every late night wondering if I was doing the right thing. It’s the quiet strength that says, “Keep going.”
Advice: Build resilience by keeping promises to yourself. Even tiny ones. When life gets tough, don’t shut down, get still, feel it, and then move forward. That’s how strength is built.
Trusting the Unknown
This one changed everything. We like to think we’re in control, but life is always shifting. Learning to trust the unknown, especially when nothing makes sense, opened up space for magic and alignment in my life.
Advice: Let go of needing all the answers right now. Take the next step, even if you can’t see the whole path. Trust that what’s meant for you will always find you, especially when you move with intention and heart.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I’m always open to partnering and collaborating, especially with people and brands who are heart-led, purpose-driven, and excited about creating real impact.
For Wonderful Me, I’d love to connect with educators, therapists, youth programs, school counselors, parents, retailers, and content creators who are passionate about emotional wellness for kids and teens. If you’re aligned with helping the next generation build confidence and self-awareness, let’s talk. You can reach me at [email protected] or connect with me on Instagram @wonderfulmejournal.
For Luminis Energy, I’m looking to collaborate with property owners, commercial retail owners, developers, grocery chains, and sustainability-focused organizations who want to be part of reshaping the future of EV infrastructure. I’d also love to partner with city leaders and retail brands who want to bring more value to their spaces while supporting clean energy.
