Meet Mikayla Major

We recently connected with Mikayla Major and have shared our conversation below.

Mikayla , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I knew I loved to encourage, be a helper, give hope, write and sing. So, as I was doing some serious self reflection/prayer over my life and where God has chose me to be. I ran across this quote by David Viscott and It went something like, “The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The work of life is to develop it. The meaning of life is to give your gift away.” My gift for one is to have a servants heart for all of God’s people. And the best way I knew how… was to give, write and sing about it. The development part was needing to mature in it. As I begin this journey unknowing the result, I started working on what I felt was calling me and realized the lives that were touched and encourage by me as a relatable writer, artist, and friend. I found my purpose through just taking actions in what I love.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I was raised by my single Mother who did a phenomenal job at being both mother and father in mine and siblings lives. I also didn’t miss out much on not having a dad because there was always a father figure heaven sent whether it be a youth pastor, mentor, teacher, step father and etc. Even though we were poor, we made the best of it. Some of my happiest times were when we struggled the most because we had each other. Growing up, I remember going to church and joining the choir soon founding out that I could hold a little tune. I learned then how music in general made me feel. It was like my escaped at times. Fast forward, I graduate high school and begun to take it serious. I had the privilege of leading worship at some amazing churches, singing backgrounds for some gospel legends and touring. But, the thing that I loved most is to write. I would get this melody in my head, something to say, and next thing I know I have a full song. So my artistry started with a pull and desire. I begun getting mentored by my God mom/ mentor Ericka Watson. Under her I got to learn and experience the freedom of songwriting. Now I write for others alongside for myself. This motivated me to put out my first single called California Girl (which is available on all platforms). In the works, I have another single titled Mess Called me followed by an EP. Which makes me most excited for the impact my music will have on others. Just one great outcome at a time warms my heart. I currently get the honor of serving at my home church called Celebration as production and worship leader. I meet the most humble and amazing people here which had been such help in my growth and keeping me grounded. My whole life has felt like a coaster of things but each season, I have been guided to the right people which felt right on time. And I have found that in my church community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities, skills, and knowledge that I’ve gained are first posture. Your posture, meaning the reason why you started your journey. Never forget who you are, the desire and goal drive that got you here. Second, is your confidence. Having confidence in yourself and what you have to offer becomes a domino effect on others. Lastly, is being consistent. Consistency gives you results.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Anyone that knows me knows that I love a little bit of each genre. I am so open to working and collaborating with other people. With my artistry side, I would limit it to working with people whom may have the same visions and goals that I have. You can find me on Instagram as sincerely_mik and my email is mmajor95@gmail.com.
