Meet Mikayla Prioleau

We were lucky to catch up with Mikayla Prioleau recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikayla , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
In your 20’s specifically, it can be difficult to find your purpose. Your in a transition phase of either entering school or departing school and having to shake hands with the real world. You’ve lost friendships, relationships, old stuff doesn’t hit the same, so you start exploring to see what else is out there for you. I found my purpose by trusting God, who I know is not done with me yet. After graduating from college, I landed a great job but was still so lost with what I wanted my life to be. I had dreams and goals of becoming a news reporter and found out quickly that was not my path. That’s why it is important for you to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. I found my purpose by trying new things, meeting new people, attending networking events and being exposed to new experiences and most importantly stepping out of my comfort zone. God has a purpose for everyone.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Marketing Manager for a national fast-casual restaurant chain! The most exciting thing about my role and my previous career points would be the ability to work with people all across the world. I work specifically with Franchise owners and groups who have invested into businesses. Another exciting thing about where I am in my career is that I have had multiple opportunities to work with FOOD. Good food is essential to the soul and a happy place for almost everyone. When you eat good, you feel good and that is something that I go by. Over the past few years my professional development in the corporate restaurant marketing world has had a huge positive influence on where I am today. Different experiences have shaped me to alter my thoughts and always try doing something new.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities that have been the most impactful on my journey would be determination, balance, and patience. If you are determined to do something, put your mind to it and continue to apply pressure, even when the going gets rough. We have to balance our thoughts, emotions, feelings, fears, desires, wants and needs. Take time to do things that make you happy. This will help you explore the inner version of yourself that you didn’t know was there. Patience is key. Pray about it, trust the process, don’t set a timeline for things to happen, set goals for your self, read a book, grab coffee with old friends, walk your dog, go to the gym, talk to God, heal, or go get your feet done. Self-care will help you stay patient and there are many forms of it. Everything you desire will come right to you on it’s own timing.

Remember that you have time. Take your time when you are figuring out where you want to be. You need time to process those thoughts, feelings, and emotions so you don’t make any decisions off impulse. Keep manifesting! You got this!

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months has been accepting things for the way they are. We spend too much time focusing on things that we cannot control unfortunately. It is what it is. Things will come when they do and that is a part of life. Use your time to breath and block out the world and focus in on your dreams and goals. We spend too much time chasing old friendships, relationships, careers and things that just don’t hit the same. Keep being you and you will naturally attract what is for you.

Keep going and level up on them! You got this!
