We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mike Miklaus. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mike below.
Hi Mike, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Rene Rodriguez in his book Amplify your influence describes how we all have a formative event; positive or negative; that can be the why for our purpose of passion in life.
Mine was my parents divorce and the distant separation from my dad at about 9 years of age. As the oldest of three kids to eventually the oldest of five; we bounced around until my stepdad, the father of my youngest brother provided us with a home and all the security that comes with having one.
I answered a small ad in the LA Times “to promote thrift and home ownership”. Here I am over fifty years later still providing mortgage advise and assisting families to purchase and/or restructure the debt on their homes. My joy comes from seeing a first time homebuyer receive the keys to their first home. I am proud that six of my seven adult children own their own homes.
This is the first building block to financial security and the path to generational wealth. Our society values and fabric are based upon the foundation of faith and the family unit.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Jack Canfield, the author of Success Principles and the “Chicken Soup” series of books periodically collaborates with other highly successful business leaders in many fields to publish their views.
I had the privledge in 2024 to be a part of an Amazon Best Selling book on Goal setting and Mindset with other professionals from around the world. The Book Title is Success Redefined and chapter fourteen is my humble contribution. I hope it continues to sell well.
The proceeds of the book are going to raise awareness of and fight human trafficking.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Faith is foundational for success. God is the source of a healthy mindset. Family. We all have a need to belong, to be loved, and to be accepted. Health. Without it you have nothing.
You are 100% responsible for your own outcomes. We all have a past; but today is where we must invest. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Read daily non fiction books in any area of interest. Devote time for silence, prayer, and meditation; whatever that look like for you. Focus needs to be based in gratitude; not want. Then Exercise. You cannot feel worse from a good sweat. Do these three things daily and I promise you the changes you desire will be more attainable.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
This may sound harsh to some; but when my dad died I was twenty two years old. He was my hero. A humble man, a dock worker, a man of faith, and my biggest cheer leader. He was also in Ohio and I was in Southern California. My mom and I did not get along. I was the oldest. I started paying room and board when I got my first job at fourteen and a half. I moved out on my own at the age of seventeen. The biggest gift came from my mom when she made it clear once I moved out there was no longer any room for me in the nest. I had to learn to fly, feed myself and build a nest of my own. My dad’s passing allowed me to reflect on the values I observed in him. He always put others first. He was content with what he had. He had the ability to encourage others. These qualities remind me to this day. If I take care of my clients, my family and my friends; my income, comfort, and happiness in this life are secure.
