Meet Mike Miller

We recently connected with Mike Miller and have shared our conversation below.

Mike, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I can say that as someone who is currently in different ways alone, it does have it’s challenges. When you are single and are alone, you live with a lot of dreams longing to achieve and to fill places in your life that are currently missing. On a personal level, it has not been easy as I have had to deal with a lot obstacles that I have had to struggle with over the years including my own housing which has been practically far from stable in ways. Like most others, I pretty much try to focus on the positive goals that I try to achieve every day. I stay in communication with others as much as possible through resources that I continue to use via phone and internet and continue writing scripts for different film projects that I would like to go forward with upon putting everything in place to accomplish them. Becoming successful however hasn’t been easy with a lot of obstacles that I have had to face and deal with along the way. But above all, I am one who has learned with God’s help to be as courageous as possible to be able like anyone to fight for my goals and dreams which is important including also eventually being able to finally meet that someone in my life who I will marry and have children and a family with which is what I long for most of all among other things.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am again a film producer as well as writer and director with a production company which I created a few years back which is dedicated to faith based and family film projects. I have so far filmed a couple of small film projects including a documentary which is based on the important issue of homelessness. I am currently working on filming another short film project which is a Christmas story that I also recently wrote and have casted my actors for the film which I am getting ready to shoot soon. I am also planning a couple of other documentaries in the near future as well and hope to be able to go forward with bigger things beyond that if things work out.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say the three things that have helped me the most were determination and desire to accomplish my goals, my creative skills as a writer which was much of how the journey started for me and above all, faith in God who I believe in his time brought me from a complicated life that I grew up with to Los Angeles to somehow build a better life and to use my experience as well as the abilities that he gave me to try to make the world a better place. If I have any advice for others who are starting out with accomplishing their goals, especially those who are starting out as I did, it is to continue to believe in yourself no matter what. There may be obstacles along the way and challenges that may discourage you and will put your faith to the test, but never give up because dreams are worth fighting for especially when they help keep you going every day which is important.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
I would say that in the last year things have been falling a little more into place through being able to put together my new short film project that I am looking forward to shooting soon with a wonderful cast that I was fortunate to be able to put together along with another company that has agreed to distribute the film which will help it to hopefully be successful. In addition, I look forward to being able to film other projects in the near future upon being in communication with others through different sources and websites as well as other financial support that I hope to be able to build on as well.
