Meet Mike Previti

We were lucky to catch up with Mike Previti recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Since I can remember I was a very driven person. Especially when it came to doing what I love. When I was very young it was my passion for acting. I was about 10 or 11 and I remember begging my father to call an “agent” because I knew I needed one to get into the business. I wouldn’t stop hounding him at work about it until he called one. He finally did and a short while later I had my first agent. When I was concentrated on being a singer songwriter years later, all my focus when into doing whatever it took to get to the next level. And it’s the same now as a voice actor. The common thread is that all of these things are arts driven. Creative paths. If I had to guess I would say my resilience comes from my love of the arts and the need to be creative. Although voice acting is a business, and you have to learn to be business minded, I find myself also leading from my heart, which is where my passion lies.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a full time voice actor and singer. I started acting at a young age, then music took over my life for many years then led me to voice acting. It actually makes so much sense that I ended up here. As a voice actor I ended up taking my love of acting as well as singing and now am able to utilize it all under the voice acting umbrella. I have voiced TV commercials, and characters in animated projects and video games. Being behind a microphone is what I have done almost my entire life. Being able to start my day in a recording booth each morning is something that I do not take for granted. Some of the brands I have worked with include GoDaddy, Lego, Mattel, Marvel, Samsung and Merrell. I have been in video games including Ready Or Not, Dislyte, Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home and the soon to be released Medic: Pacific War. I have also been cast in NY Times Best Selling Children’s Author Patrick Carman’s animated series “Bonkers!” as well as the recent English dub of the Korean hit “Poten Dogs”, released on Prime.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think for me, three qualities that have helped me along the way have been drive, the mindset of not giving up and the determination to keep learning.
If you are early in your voiceover journey there are a few things you need to know. 1, that your journey is different to everyone else’s so do NOT compare yourself to others and what they are doing or have done. 2, know that this is a business. You have to work at getting auditions, work to get agents and marketing is something that needs to be done daily. It’s a daily grind but worth it. Lastly, you need to be open to learning continuously. Coaching, workshops, etc. Anything you can do to better yourself as a voice actor is the goal.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

It wasn’t one specific thing but it spanned years and years. My parents were always very supportive of what I wanted to do. They could see I had a passion for the arts and always backed me 100% with the path I chose. It has never been an easy road and there can be some dark times when pursuing this career, but my parents acted as my therapist so many times in my life as well as my cheerleaders. I know that as parents, especially being one myself now, that it is hard to see your child go through tough times, and they had their share of that. But they were always supportive.
