Meet Mike Silva

We were lucky to catch up with Mike Silva recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
In the early days, I faced skepticism and doubters who questioned my abilities. Instead of letting it discourage me, I used it as fuel to refine my skills and prove my worth. I embraced constructive criticism, learned from it, and focused on continuous improvement. Building resilience became a habit, and I found strength in my passion, always remembering that my journey is defined by my dedication, not by external opinions. This mindset has been crucial in persisting through challenges and turning negativity into motivation.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Sure, I am a seasoned Private Chef, who expresses feelings and creativity on a plate. I think what sets me apart is the focus on quality, innovation, and creating memorable moments through food. Stay tuned for updates on new menu offerings and events that bring my visions to a broader audience. If interested send me an email please.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, the three crucial key factors were adaptability, passion for learning and client understanding. Now for those starting their culinary journey, my advice is simple, here we go are you ready ? First, never stop learning, stay curious, enroll in workshops, and experiment in your kitchen. Learning is a lifelong journey my friend.
Second, embrace challenges “like a pro”. Challenges are opportunities to grow in so many ways. Don’t shy away from them; instead, use them as stepping stones.
Third, build relationships, understand your clients deeply. Strong relationships lead to trust, which is fundamental in the culinary world.
Take these steps, combining with your love for learning, adaptability and client-centric approach and the sky’s the limit.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
Finding a balance is key. While it’s essential to leverage your strengths, investing effort in areas where you’re not as strong can lead to a more well-rounded skill set. Specialization in strengths brings excellence, but versatility opens doors to diverse opportunities.

For instance, in my culinary journey, I initially focused heavily on my signature dishes. However, recognizing the demand for diverse cuisines, I invested time in expanding my repertoire. This decision not only broadened my client base but also deepened my appreciation for different culinary traditions.

So, my advice is to play to your strengths but remain open to growth. It’s the synergy of strengths and continuous improvement that affect a journey forward, creating a unique and adaptable professional identity.
