We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mike Stang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mike below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Mike with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I got my work ethic from my parents. Both were very hard working, driven, and organized. It was always in-forced in me to not half ass anything I had committed to. Even if it was something I did care much for, but had given a commitment to I was taught to do the task to the best of my abilities.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I grew up in Pennsylvania. Music was a big part of my family. I was lucky to grow up in an environment where it was something that was encouraged. I started playing trumpet when I was about 9 then around 12 I took to piano. When I was 14 I picked up bass guitar and that’s been my main instrument ever since. Currently I work with a lot of different music agencies that do a lot of corporate events & weddings. I also do writing sessions with several other artists as well as remote recording sessions
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think I’ve been lucky enough to recognize that the greatest qualities I’ve had that brought me along my journey have been my passion for doing what I do, my drive to do better when I know something is out of my wheelhouse, and my willingness to learn and soak in knowledge from any sources of inspiration. My advice for anyone on this career path would be never be afraid to learn. Sometimes it’s intimidating going into new projects or developing new skills that’s polish your craft. It can be very humbling at times, but I’ve been fortunate enough to get a rush from those challenges and I’ve never shied away. I’ve learned that’s truly where the growth happens.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always in search of like minded people who want to write and record together. I’ve spent a good portion of my career playing live and recording/writing on the side. I’d like to balance that a little more and get more original work out there for other artists as well as commercial use. I’ve been writing for a while and have a catalog of songs/soundtrack material that I would love to see get out to the public and licensed. I’d love to collaborate more with people who share a similar vision.
