Meet Mikey Brown

We recently connected with Mikey Brown and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikey, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I was born in a town of 38 people in Deputy, Indiana. It was a necessity to creatively come up with whatever I wanted from the scraps leftover out here that were given to me growing up. That sculpted me into being someone to fix broken things or create from nothing but trash if need be to take part in whatever I wanted go for next. Whether it was a local car show or a HotWheels Legends Tour I’ve trusted that my “training” in the ScrapPile will get me through.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My main passion project is a show I’m developing on the Paper to Pavement YouTube channel called “Mikey’s Acre of Earth”. There are a lot of shows that I really miss from my childhood that I decided to be a part in bringing back my own version of. The show is my take on a blend of pbs type informational programs like Mr Roger’s Neighborhood or the reading rainbow with The hands on Visual experiences that I loved on shows like junkyard wars and dirty jobs. The goal is to speak to an audience that would start to consider a life through the hands on trades industry. I want to show that a skilled trade can be used for things outside of welding, wrenching, and painting positions. My training at wyotech has allowed me to grow into the artist I’ve always wanted to be while also given me a skillet that I could build a solid foundation in life with.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Vision, commitment, and courage is my recipe. If I can see the finished product in my head, I can then go all in on the step by step process I see to achieve the goal, then I’ve got to deal with the voices of doubt inside of me to see it through and stand proudly by whatever I’ve created. I am taking really big swings for the piles I have to start from which speaks to the kind of person I really appreciate. Having less to start with than your competition and still making them sweat is a great feeling that I truly believe can be achieved by anybody with enough obsession.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

I live day to day with this kind of mindset. My next 10 years no matter if they are my last will be spent preparing my 2 kids to be assets in a world through the trades industry. I believe we are all going down a path where machines are gonna be doing a lot of the thinking moving forward and I will be getting my bloodline ready for the creation process of the future.
