Meet Mikey Candela

We were lucky to catch up with Mikey Candela recently and have shared our conversation below.

Mikey, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I developed my confidence and self-esteem throughout the years. As an artist, it’s not always easy to project how you feel or how you present yourself in front of an audience. You can write songs about being on top of the world when in reality you’re only trying to keep it together. Not just me, but many artists out there go through this. Not everyone wants to hear a song about how you’re feeling that day or working a nine to five. I personally write about positive things in life as well as partying and letting go, but that’s mostly because that is the total opposite of how I lived for most of my life. Through my music I manifest what I want and as an artist I project it. This form of expression has helped me greatly overcome self-doubt, fear and even certain anxieties due to being an introvert. This form of “fake it till you make it” somehow worked for me. I am now able to dress how I like, express myself how I like, and get on stage in front of thousands of people and feel at home. I used a persona to work my way into developing the confidence and self-esteem I needed for me. Now, the persona and I are more alike than ever boosting my confidence to the point where I can direct conversations, do public speaking, and even feel comfortable within a group of strangers.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Mikey Candela, and I am a recording artist, actor, and writer from Puerto Rico. I started making music in 2012 and since then I have grown in the music industry. I currently make feel good and party music in English and in Spanish such as reggaeton, hip hop, dembow amongst others. Recently I got into acting and writing screenplays for films, plays, and music videos which have opened many doors for me. I am currently writing my second movie and producing my first play in theaters while also working on releasing new music early 2026.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities or skills that really helped me throughout my career is discipline, consistency and repetition. Discipline such as arriving early, practicing before recording or filming, and making time to create is essential if you want to progress in any industry, not just the entertainment. Consistency is key to anything! One thing that all the greats had in common is that they never gave up, keep that in mind. Repetition is also important because this way you develop a routine. It’s easy to quit a dream but taking the first step towards it and repeating it every day is the way to achieve it.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am looking to collaborate with fellow artists, musicians, and filmmakers. I write music in English or Spanish as long as the vibe is good, we can make great music. As far as film industry I am open to collaborations as well, I write screenplays in both English and Spanish. I have currently written one movie in Spanish and working on my second movie which will be in English.
