Meet Mikey Coleman

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mikey Coleman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Mikey, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.

At Ohio Valley Roofing, generosity isn’t something we put on display. It’s just how we were raised.

It comes from growing up in a place where people look out for each other. Where if your neighbor’s roof was leaking, you didn’t wait for them to ask. You just showed up. That same mindset is what built this company and what keeps it running today.

Our generosity comes from the kind of people who taught us to take pride in hard work and doing things right, even when nobody’s watching. It’s not about being flashy or trying to make a name for ourselves. It’s about being dependable, honest, and willing to go a little further when it matters most.

When a homeowner calls us after a storm, they’re usually calling on one of their hardest days. We know that. That’s why we try to meet them with patience, fairness, and respect, because that’s what we’d want if the tables were turned.

Our generosity comes from the values this company was built on: help people when they need it, be straight with them, and take care of the job like it was your own home.

That’s who we are. That’s Ohio Valley Roofing.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At Ohio Valley Roofing, we do more than replace roofs. We help people pick up the pieces after a storm and make sure they’re treated fairly through the insurance process. Most homeowners come to us stressed and unsure who to trust, and our goal is to guide them through it with honesty, patience, and clear communication.

What makes us different is that we understand both construction and the insurance side. We know how to work with adjusters professionally and make sure our customers get the quality of work their policy promises. We don’t play games. We just do things the right way.

Right now, we’re expanding across Kentucky and southern Indiana, investing in better technology, training, and communication to create a smoother experience for homeowners. At the end of the day, our name is on every roof we install, and that means something to us. Around here, reputation still matters

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three most important qualities that have shaped my journey are persistence, communication, and the mindset of “do it now.”

Persistence matters because this industry will test you. Claims get delayed, weather changes plans, and nothing ever goes exactly as expected. You have to keep pushing forward no matter what.

Communication is key. Being clear and honest with homeowners, adjusters, and your own team solves most problems before they start.

And then there’s “do it now.” Don’t wait for the perfect time or someone else to handle it. Taking action right away builds momentum and shows people you mean business.

My advice to anyone starting out is simple: stay persistent, communicate well, and do it now. Those three things will take you a long way.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Without question, our CEO Adam Patterson has been the biggest influence on my growth in this business. Adam leads by example. He stays calm under pressure, makes smart decisions quickly, and keeps everyone focused on doing what’s right for the customer.

What I respect most about him is his balance of toughness and humility. He expects a lot, but he’s always willing to roll up his sleeves and lead from the front.

From Adam, I’ve learned accountability, clear communication, and the importance of taking action. His leadership has shaped the culture at Ohio Valley Roofing and pushed all of us to be better every day.
