Meet Mikey T

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mikey T. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Mikey , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

I truly believe that if we all take care of our little piece of the world, then slowly and surely the whole world will get better. I know I can’t fix everything, but the little I do to give back to my community makes me feel good like I’m part of something big. Helping children in the community see that you don’t have to be rich to give back.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am so in love with my Jamaican culture I feel it should be taught in academia across the world, so much so I invest my time and money in developing and producing stories that can be the foundation for conversations that can change the world.
Through my journey I have learned the power of storytelling and using story to shape perception and change people’s actions.
So I use my films and speaking to help open the door for bigger conversations amongst people that will help make a better tomorrow.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Speaking, Curiosity, Grit are three skills I think helped me get this far in my journey. I did not go to school for film and haven’t formally trained in speaking. I just felt I had a story to tell and wanted it to be heard in any way possible.
If you are just starting your journey young or old, just make sure you never forget the core reason you are doing what you are doing. Whatever that may be.

I am looking to do more presentations, workshops and speaking gigs. To show my films and express my views and ways we can come together and make actual change is my biggest goal right now.
