We recently connected with Miko Aguilar and have shared our conversation below.
Miko, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
It was always been natural for me to serve others. I thank my parents and school for that. Although I didn’t see it as “serving others” in the beginning. It just made sense to me, almost like a default setting, and to a fault. I always put myself last, and the way to fix this was to include myself in the community I’m serving. This way, I help others as I help myself. I feel this is a healthier approached than choosing between me and others. I also believe this is what purpose means, sharing what comes easy to you, to others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
In my Qolaj project, I am continuously finding ways to bring dance music to people who don’t frequent clubs and festivals. I don’t think economic and geographic limitations should rob people of the grounding nature of music. For my band Umbra Maze, we’re in the process of writing songs for our first EP that we plan to release mid-2025. For my creative studio, We The Studio, I am working on a few short films, podcasts and creative consultation for small business and social impact organizations. I am also writing a few screenplays myself and about launch my merch store. Big things are coming and there are a number of ways to support me as I support others.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One quality that I’m really glad I have is my adaptability. My relaxed personality and many of my decisions are anchored on the fact that I know I can pivot effortlessly if I had to. This flexibility helped a lot when I was learning improv, which is another skill that made a huge impact in my life. Lastly, curiosity. Constantly asking questions exercises critical thinking.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Biggest growth for me in the past 12 months is my hair. Also my mental health. I have made a huge progress in understanding my design.I am now seeing glimpses of connections between that and my passions. Seeing how all this tie together is really exciting. Having context on self is a gift I wish for everyone.
