Meet Miku Sakamoto

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miku Sakamoto a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Miku , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My fascination with the beauty industry started during the pandemic, a time when people found themselves confined with limited opportunities. Surprisingly, even amidst uncertainty and economic hardships, beauty treatments remained in high demand. Initially, this struck me as counterintuitive since, in difficult times, I assumed that non-essential services like beauty treatments would be the first to go. However, that’s definitely not the case and I think it’s because beauty treatments offer a sense of control and dependability during turbulent times – a sanctuary of sorts. When the world is on fire and you have no idea what’s going to happen next, beauty treatments are there for you, transforming even the gloomiest of days into brighter ones.

While I was drawn to the beauty industry, I wasn’t sure about which specific beauty treatments I wanted to pursue. I quickly ruled out lash extensions due to their meticulous nature and invasive procedures because I feared the idea of cutting into people’s skin. While exploring different options and nothing really appealing to me, my friend posted a training course for body sculpting. This world of noninvasive body sculpting seemed too good to be true initially, but upon research, I found out that it was a legitimate field backed by science. That was enough for me, and I signed up for the training program.

I’ll admit, I had no idea at the time if body sculpting was something I’d be passionate about. I had no idea if I’d even like doing it! I just knew that I had to try. I was so miserable with my life at the time that the fear of venturing into the unknown was nothing compared to my fear of staying the same. So, I went for it pedal to the metal and just hoped for the best.

I quickly discovered that I LOVED body sculpting. It’s everything I wanted in a career and more. Every morning I wake up motivated and filled with purpose to help others be more confident in their own body. It’s the greatest feeling ever!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I own a noninvasive body sculpting spa called The Sculpt Fairy located in Dallas Texas. We offer noninvasive procedures that reshape and contour the body without the need for surgery or other invasive techniques. We help people get rid of stubborn body fat, reduce cellulite and signs of aging, and build and tone muscle. All of our treatments are painless and have no down time, making it easier for people to fit into their daily life.

When I opened The Sculpt Fairy in August 2021 I was in a little salon suite that was barely big enough for my treatment table and machines. In April of 2023, we had our grand opening for a new location that is ten times the size of my original location with multiple treatment rooms. Each room has a unique theme that’s meant to transport you to a different world. As soon as you walk into the spa there’s a neon sign that says “you are not just a work in progress, you are a masterpiece in motion,” which is meant to both empower people and make them feel safe and welcomed at the same time.

Our goal is to make people’s lives better with body contouring – whether that’s by helping rebuild their confidence, taking the stress away of getting ready for big events, or simply providing a sanctuary for people to escape their daily lives even just for an hour or two. We want all of our clients to walk out feeling better than when they walked in.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think one of the most important skills to have as an entrepreneur is the ability to identify what you DON’T know and be proactive about solving that. There is so much about being a business owner that I didn’t know anything about in the beginning (pretty much all of it) and it was very much a trial by fire process. I have a tendency to put off things that I don’t know how to do because they intimidate me and stress me out, but that just ends up causing more stress in the end. Learn from my mistakes – if you don’t know how to do something, figure out how to change that. Whether that’s just Googling, asking ChatGPT, finding a mentor, or taking a paid course. It’s worth it to put the effort in early on.

My second skill is an extension of my first – social media. Social media is here to stay and an unavoidable part of being a business owner. Yes, it’s a lot of work, no, it’s never-ending, and yes, you will most definitely go through burn out periods. But it is SO worth it. I grew my business on social media. It’s how I get a lot of my clients, still. Learn how to use the major platforms, keep up with the trends, and be consistent about posting.

Lastly, I can’t stress enough the importance of taking care of yourself. Being a business owner is a 24/7 job and it’s incredibly hard to maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life, but it’s absolutely necessary to try. When I first started my business I was open 7 days a week, hungry for any client who wanted to make an appointment. I quickly realized that I needed some time off, so I changed to being open 6 days a week. I did that for the first year or so until I got burnt out. Now, I’m open 5 days a week and am taking a lot more time to myself, time where I force myself not to think about business at all. It’s hard but I’ve learned that I’m a better business owner and boss when I’m healthy mentally and physically. Remember, business ownership is a marathon, not a sprint.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We are always open for collaborations! One of the things I love most about the beauty industry is the opportunity to collaborate with others. We love doing giveaways, influencer marketing, and would love to do some pop up events at our spa!

Anyone interested in collaborating can email us at thesculptfairy.com, call or text us at 214-974-8370, or reach out on our instagram @thesculptfairy.
