We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Milanz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Milanz, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I think I get my resilience from my stubbornness to wanting to be great, happy and at peace. In what’s fair for me or anyone. I’ve been picked on for most of my upbringing, by high school bullies, strangers in the street, family too sometimes and it really wasn’t always easy navigating those experiences at young age and alone. it’s always been a do or die thing for me. Most of the time I’ve had no choice but to pick myself up because even tho sometimes I wanted the easy way out, I know I still wouldn’t be satisfied. There was more to life than that and I was gonna battle every single thing in me to feel good, understand, master and be in my desired state of being one day.
I’ve been faced with so much of my own trauma and the world around me’s darkness at a young age that over time I just built a natural resilience to it. Purely out of survival. At some point it’s you or them girl. You gotta pick yourself cause nobody else will.
In the end, when you know what you want, you’re always gonna get it if that’s your only plan and you’re hungry enough. Whatever comes in between you, your peace and your goals, should be afraid to think about even crossing you.
That’s how I view it.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I was raised by my mom only and I think that the best thing she did for me was to believe in me. As someone who was always visionary, dreamed big, etc. I think the last thing I would have needed was a narrow minded parent. For the people out there that are big visionaries/dreamers and that don’t have supportive parents, just know that as long as you got your vision In your heart that’s all that matters. God put the vision In you not them. So having external support from your loved ones is only an extra but with your will, belief and determination anything is possible.
