Meet Mildred Heslop-chua

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mildred Heslop-chua. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mildred below.

Mildred , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I didn’t find my purpose, I always knew that there was something more for me in life and if I wanted to reach it I had to work hard. My mother raised 5 children on her own, she got married when I was probably 7 years old had another child and to me it seemed like if she was still on her own raising 6 children. She worked almost every day, sometimes came home and had to prepare dinner. Has the middle of the six children, I had to learn to cook, and learned other household chores. Once my mother went to work the oldest child always took care of the younger siblings. I saw my mother go to work and then came home to cook, clean, and make sure we all were taken care of. I never saw her really enjoy life or travel until we got older. All the children were encouraged to go to school and get a degree. Seeing her working so hard made me realize that I didn’t want to work all my life for someone else but have my own business. At first I wanted to become an architecture because I loved to draw and design clothes but I also dreamed of becoming a doctor because I loved to help people. Because of social racism I ended up going to nursing school and it was the best decision. I learned basic sewing at school, I started to design and sew doll, then sewed clothes for myself and my friends for special occasions. I was always attracted to fashion and beauty contests. I was always intrigued by runway models, beauty contests, and anything that had to do with fashion. I knew that some day I would own some type of fashion boutique, little did I know it would be fashion jewelry. I learned discipline and perseverance from my mother.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a retired nurse practitioner and will always have a passion for nursing and helping people. Several times I watched my friends sell jewelry on facebook, the jewelry was beautiful and affordable, only $5. I started ordering jewelry from her and she asked if I wanted to joined her team of course I told her no because at the time I was working full time, and commuting an hour to work/home and wouldn’t have time. About a year later she finally talked me into it. The first thing I said is that I will only post pictures on my Facebook page and website and direct people to them. “I will never go live that wasn’t for me “. By the time I knew it I had a room full of jewelry, I sold to friends, family, and coworkers but that wasn’t enough so I decided to go live. I remember being so nervous I didn’t know what to say or how to say it. I called brass copper and copper brass. All I remembered from modeling classes is that I always had to smile and no matter what stay calm. People will only notice something was wrong if you show it. With time and persistence things got better. Being in front of the camera helped me to loosen up and feel comfortable. I learned to share my story because you never know who will benefit from it. I wear the jewelry everyday, love the business, the jewelry is amazingly beautiful, and affordable. I go live twice a week on Facebook, sometimes more, I do vendor events, and house parties. Currently I have recruited 3 consultants and have met some lovely people in my journey. Every year I donate jewelry to several charities that help homeless youths.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I learned not to underestimate my potentials, I can do anything I set my mind to. In high school I was very shy and public speaking was not my thing. I learned to speak up for myself, to work hard, not to be afraid to try new things, and not to be discouraged if something doesn’t work out the way I wanted it to. Most of all to have Faith and wait for Gods timing. It’s great to be able to work from home or while traveling and share Paparazzi jewelry and accessories with others. It might be slow at the beginning but never give up. You never know who is on the other side of the camera just be yourself and don’t give up.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am encouraged every day by listening to the Elite Consultants. The stories of success with the business of selling $5 jewelry are encouraging and uplifting. I am collaborating with two clothing boutiques and the owners have been very helpful and inspiring. I am open to anyone else that will love to display my jewelry in their store. My goal is to recruit more consultants, have a bigger team, and help them to succeed in the business of selling $5 Paparazzi jewelry and accessories. One of the benefits of being a Paparazzi Consultant is that you become a business owner, you can run the business from anywhere, any time, and on your own schedule. “I am blessed by God and spoiled by Paparazzi “.
