Meet Milly Lopez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Milly Lopez . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Milly below.

Milly, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Everyone has a purpose in life from the day you are born. However, sometimes we have some obstacles along the way to know that purpose. As for me, I would say when I was in my mid 20’s I somewhat knew what it was. I definitely wanted to be a role model, a leader, a coach. Yet, life had to reach me through experience. When I reached my 30’s, I had a foundation because of the experience I went through and still wasn’t too sure how to put my purpose out there. That’s where the self confidence came in. Now, I am in my 40’s I started to meet women in different age group. And will say that has been the most impactful in my life. Seeing it and hearing what women in different ages go through in either personal or professional life. The encouraging women at my church have definitely helped me boost my confidence on what I was meant to do in this crazy, challenging, yet beautiful world we live in. My purpose is to be the servant leader I was intended to be.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a very disciplined women when it comes to my job. I currently do work full time at a corporation for grocery store. Which I have dedicated 21 years into it. I launched my business Mills Wick December 2023. I hand craft scented soy candles. With my busy schedule with work. I make time to do what I absolutely love to make. I started making my candles about 5 years ago. However, I would make them for Christmas and gift them. Last year, I was encouraged to take the first step and launch my business. And I took the risk and did it. Which I am ecstatic that I did.
My candles are made with such detail and purpose. Each candle I make brings a memory scent of something that triggers each customer. For example, the scent gardenia. Which is one of my signature scents. It Brings back a memory of my husband’s grandma(it was her favorite flower) Which brings loving memories when she was alive. We lost her due to breast cancer 8 years ago. Yet, that scent brings great memories of her. Another example is my Latin/ Hispanic collection. The Pan Dulce candle. Some of my customers comments are “it’s brings me memories when I was younger and my dad would bring fresh baked pan Dulce in the morning” pan Dulce is Mexican sweet bread. (Amazing)
This is my purpose to be that servant leader to bring a little bit of light into your homes.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The 3 that first pop in my head are dedication, confidence and humility . Dedication for me is the start of building anything. Not too small or big. For me dedication means I am willing to keep trying even if I fail. Which it has happened many times. Yet, I got up and tried again. This means to me that I am capable! That I too can do task that are thrown at me. I will say that the company I worked for has shown me many experiences. They were extremely challenging at times. Where it did make me question myself in many occasions.
Which takes me to the next important quality and it’s confidence. If you met me in person, you would think Milly is a very confident person. I can be, but it took me sometime to get here. And I have my moments still. Those moments are due because I let those comments get in my head. And our minds can be such a powerful tool! Just like it can be positive that set doubt will creep in. I got better where I said to myself it’s ok.. I will find my path. And once I started to give myself more credit my confidence just shines.
Now that we have dedication and confidence in line, the humility is the icing on the cake. I will not forget where I once was and how I had many challenges along the way. It has helped me achieve the goals I set for myself, it has made me stay humble and sincere with myself . That pure mess shine out and others will see that. I always say, “ if Jesus can do it, I WANT to too” there’s the humility in the work, the conversations we have with others. Even in the details in my candles I make. It’s made me be that servant leader that has a purpose.💕

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

The biggest area for Me is finishing my degree in business management ! Which I will get in less than 2 weeks! With the long hours in my full time job and having an online business with my candles, being a wife and being a fur mom to my husky🥰. And just life it’s self. it can be done! I was determined to do it. Anyone can do it! I guarantee it! The biggest advice that stayed with me was I need to have a little bit of failures, because without me having those I would never have learned to adapt to change and the whole experience of it. It has showed me personal and professionally growth to be more confident servant leader.
