Meet Mindy Jackson

We recently connected with Mindy Jackson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mindy, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?

I take time in nature to re connect with myself and stay grounded. I listen to artists that inspire me and make me feel something. I watch movies and read stories that have lit a fire in me in the past. I go to concerts and surround myself with people that I find to be inspiring. I revisit things I’ve written in the past and try to remember the feeling that pushed me to write it. I travel to new places and try to find new experiences that I can write about.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’ve been a musician for 24 years. I have toured, traveled the world, played some of the biggest festivals in the United States, been on the radio and TV, and in magazines. I’ve played with a ton of national artists and been lucky enough to make this a career that I love. This year I’ll be releasing several songs as a solo artist under my own name, as well as releasing new music with my band Dying Oath.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three things that were most impactful on my journey have been patience, networking, and understanding.
In this business patience is something you must have. Nothing happens overnight and there will be so many obstacles to overcome to keep going.
Networking is a skill that must be practiced in order to grow. In this business, you can’t do anything alone. It takes a village and a ton of support to succeed at it.
Understanding is a huge quality to have in your arsenal and something you need to continue to have on the journey. Understanding what you have to offer, who you’re offering it to, and how to get it are the most important things to have in order to keep going forward.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My parents gave me the room to be myself. I knew early on that I wanted to be a musician and a voice for those who didn’t have one. They gave me anything and everything I needed to pursue that dream. From buying my voice lessons and instruments early on, to showing up at my shows and supporting me, it really gave me the inspiration I needed to pursue this as a career.
