We were lucky to catch up with Mindy Spencer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mindy, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Through my life experiences, I learned what love wasn’t. Finally at forty, I found the greatest love. Love for myself. Today I practice giving myself grace, patience. Turning my pain into power is now my constant motivation.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Being a mother at just fifteen, my education was pushed to the side. Last year I went back to school! I’m now pursuing a career in Computer Technology. It’s never too late to chase your dreams. When I’m not attending school, I’m a creator and owner of Necessary Badassery. I love to crochet and do various other crafts. Sometimes I attend events when I need to make a few dollars. My dream is to open up a little shop one day.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
First and foremost, I never give up. If you can think up excuses, you can figure out solutions. Nothing about my life has been easy. But I learned to turn that pain into power! By losing my mother to addiction, and now beginning a battle with Breast Cancer. I’m a survivor!
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I’ve just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Not even two months after the loss of my mother. It’s on the borderline of being invasive. A mastectomy will be done very soon and reconstructive surgery will follow. I’m terrified. But I’m still out here trying to share my story. Trying to uplift others in their struggles. No matter what kind of hand life deals you. It’s your CHOICE in how you play it!
