We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Minh/mimi Dawson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Minh/Mimi, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
I work hard and play hard, I take pride in what I do for a job but I take more pride in spending time with my family. My self-care is spending time with my husband, from adventures to just relaxing on the couch, I also am deeply committed to my second relationship: food. I believe that my balance on work and life grants me the ability to see more clearly and push through worries with greater ease.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I provide a various assortment of beautification processes such as: Nails, Eyelash work, Facials, etc. Genuinely the job is mostly just providing the customer a nice relaxing break from the weariness of life, a small island catered just to you for some time. I take pride in my work no matter what others may believe, I have done my utmost to show I am good at what I do, and that is what makes it special to me. The main takeaway from this is that I love my job and I love my customers! Thank you all for your support!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Working hard, knowing what you’re doing/getting into, and not focusing so hard on the money aspect. I have always felt that if I aim too high I may burn my customers along the way, I am not as successful as I wish to be yet and wish to take my time building my way further along my path. I may be good at what I do but I feel there is always much to learn and more to grow. To those that are just beginning I say: don’t give up, and be kind. Picking yourself back up and continuing to work hard is always good whether it is actual work or working on yourself. Believing in what you can do is an important piece of life for anything you wish to accomplish.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I know it is difficult to come out of the fog when you are being overwhelmed but my advice is usually to isolate for a moment and meditate on your thoughts. I also love to take a small nap or get some food when I am stressed as those are my simple comforts! My final piece of advice for this however, is that there is no one way to get out of that feeling and my way may not work for you but will work for others. It is important to change tactics and follow your gut if you don’t see improvement.
