Meet Minh Tuan Nguyen

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Minh Tuan Nguyen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Minh Tuan, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I believe my optimism comes from a few places which go hand in hand, first I was naturally born with optimism and I have faith that God the higher power which easily goes as number one, vice versa with my positivity. Aside of the spiritual aspect it has been trial and error over many years, working to overcome obstacles while maintaining a positive mindset. With every challenge I faced I saw it as a test, that must be powered through even when things hurt so much they felt unbearable, cause I knew deep inside that If I persevered and continued to push that the end results would be worth the journey there.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been an artist at heart for a long time since my childhood, being involved so much as music, from playing instruments, to singing, to writing poetry, to when I found out my passion to become a filmmaker, that led to screenwriting, directing and producing. I opened my film production company Create Pictures a few years ago where I could Direct and Produce narrative films, music videos, work on commercials etc. Although I have worked for a few major studios such as CBS, Fox, Disney and Paramount and have delved into the indie film world, I feel like the path has only just begun regardless of how long I have been doing this. Along with my love for the art of story telling, I do like to give back to the community with whatever time I can put in, while also venturing with the entrepreneur spirit in everything I do.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe learning is a life long experience, I would say management is a skill that helps me navigate through every project, work assignment and or production, which has allowed me to collaborate with other brilliant minds which I am so grateful for each experience no matter how difficult things could get. Along the way whatever wisdom I have attained or professional knowledge that I acquired, I was able to serve either as a consultant or mentor to those in need to assist them with their creations. Lastly listening, a key factor in communication, I made sure to be alert, aware and astute to listening, although I may not have always agreed those moments where I took the time hear what was being said allowed me to create an environment that helped those I worked with. In regards to developing these skills, I would say with management that takes working on different projects in a leadership position over time to improve, listening just takes awareness and patience, and well in regards to learning, that just takes the curiosity and initiative to gather more knowledge.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I believe my biggest area of growth over the past year has been working on balance, for the longest time all I knew was to work, work, work, but I realized that led to exhaustion and burn out as well as not being as satisfied with things in general. In other words, I have found out that is very essential to take time off to play and relax to recharge. In our youth we think we are indestructible and can keep going like machines, well, even machines break down over time. It is extremely important to take care of our health, cause if we don’t have our health, that we are no good to ourselves or anyone around us. So It is absolutely necessary to take the time off that we need in order to hop back on that seat of work later fully energized again so that we can maintain that level of productivity that we want and still also fulfill our own happiness.
