Meet Minister Dawnn Vance

We recently connected with Minister Dawnn Vance and have shared our conversation below.

Minister Dawnn, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

The world is very diverse. For some that can be very challenging and overwhelming. I saw indifference as a daunting experience or a barrier to success. My mother always taught us to be leaders, not followers. This teaching taught me to embrace my uniqueness; coming from a military lineage, I’ve always had a great support network. Cultivating cultural competence, speaking up and being heard, focusing on my excellence, and embracing learning and growth. Helped to navigate me through any situation with confidence, resilience, and grace. It was then that I realized my presence and contributions have value, and that I have the power to make a difference in any room I enter.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I own The Febe Foundation, it is a nonprofit organization. Located in Tennessee. I started this Foundation because I am a natural-born humanitarian. This business allows me to fulfill my purpose. While helping my community. The Febe Foundation helps to build the community back into a unit. The people of the community. Can receive help with rent, utilities, and food. We also have youth development programs and free Accredited career classes. Such as CNAs, pharmacy technicians, welding, and CDL. We also provide help and assistance to the elderly and veteran disabled. I’m currently in grad school at Butler University to receive my doctorate of pharmacy, to become a pharmacist. Coming soon will be an on-demand pharmacy for seniors and veterans only.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Losing my dad and witnessing my mom’s struggle deeply influenced my path to success. Facing job loss due to prejudice and racism also played a significant role, leading me towards entrepreneurship. My passion, honesty, empathy, understanding, and optimism were key qualities that helped me overcome these challenges. Upholding etiquette, morals, and values has also been essential on my journey.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My father’s had a significant and far-reaching influence on me. From shaping my self-esteem and my attitude towards men. He also influenced my academic and career success. By being present, involved, and supportive. His engagement helped build the foundation I needed to thrive and succeed in life. I feel this is what helped me to become confident and determined to overcome obstacles and achieve her goals. My father was always loving, affectionate and respectful towards me. This is what leveled the foundation for how i deserve to be treated by others. his adoration showed me what a healthy, loving relationship between a man and a woman looks like. Even business relationships. Which influenced my expectations and standards when it comes to choosing a partner in life or business.
