Meet Minister Latoya Roberts

We recently connected with Minister Latoya Roberts and have shared our conversation below.

Minister LaToya , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience came from a life of tragedy and misfortune since birth. At 6 yrs old my mother had a heart attack and died. I was molested at 9yrs old. Lived in multiple foster homes. Been through rejection, verbal abuse my first reaction is become angry bitter low self esteem no confidence etc. I was tired of living that way. I was tired of the pain and emotional turmoil. I decided to learn more about God and I asked him to help me. Through many years of pain birthed power!!! I found my purpose and love for myself. Went back to school and accomplished my dreams of being a registered nurse. I gained confidence and started helping people. Giving them support and tools on changing the mindset the victim slayer was birthed and I wrote the inspirational book called “victim Slayer” it literally transformed people’s lives.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am the author of the book the victim slayer over coming your past embracing the future. It’s a book on learning how to change your mindset from the victim mentality to the victorious mentality. It’s starts with a made up mind. I am a registered nurse and I currently and the nursing director in a skilled rehabilitation and long term care facility. I am the mother of 4 children and 2 bonus sons. I am also an educator, I teach cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr) inspired by loosing my mother at a very young age to cardiac. Arrest my hope is to bring awareness and teach people how to save a life. Using the skill of immediate chest compressions. My business is called “ Gimme a beat CPR” I am also an ordained minister and my mission is to share the love of God to all who will listen. I am currently working on my second book. I also host a tv show on the NOW network called “broken Masterpieces Restored” each week I feature a new guest to share their testimony of healing and overcoming adversity.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Deciding to not want to hold on to hurt and pain. I realized I am the one who suffers. Those that hurt me don’t remember or don’t even care. Forgiveness is a big key to letting go of hurt. You don’t have to talk to the person to forgive. You can just forgive in your heart and let it go. Also I accepted that I may never get a. Apology from those that hurt me. And that was ok. These people are living their lives. And if I wanted to live better and feel better I needed to deal with my hurt and learn to let it go and figure out way to be a better person. I was tired of hurting those whom I loved. I believe God helped me heal in so many ways. Through people. Change begins when you can acknowledge your pain and accept the fact you need help to heal. It’s not something you can do in your own no matter how you attempt and try. I started by reading self help books, sought after Counselling, watched shows like Dr. Phil, Iyanna vanzant, court tv, church services, and I pulled positive things from the shows and used it as learning tools. I am not a paid endorsement for any of them. However, these had some influence on me.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I have to say God!!! He has been my rock. I can say I did this all alone but I would be a liar. God has placed people in my life to help me along the way. I have been in places I shouldn’t have been due to being hurt and angry I believe I should have been dead. My molester had HIV I have never contracted that disease that to this day has claimed so many lives, including the person who molested me. That’s where I realized I had purpose. Otherwise I would have died. It’s been over 30 years. I am healthy and here!!! I have burning desire to help anyone who crosses my path in this journey called life.
