Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miranda Calatrello. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Miranda, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I wish I could say it happened overnight. That there was a single moment when everything clicked. But the truth is—it took time. It took wrestling with burnout, boundaries, and the blurry line between client expectations and personal passion.
In the early days of Maven Marketing, I was wrapped up in the work itself. Every deliverable, every email, every metric—I let it define me. I thought success meant never dropping a ball, never saying no, and always going the extra mile. But somewhere along the way, I lost my why.
I had to step back—not just from the laptop, but from the version of myself that felt obligated to meet everyone else’s needs before my own. That’s when the real transformation began.
I realized my purpose was twofold.
First, I wanted to build something that genuinely helped small business owners—especially the ones who didn’t have a CMO in their back pocket or a six-figure budget. I wanted to give them accessible, reliable, and strategic marketing support. The kind that felt like a true extension of their team—not just another agency.
Second, I looked inward at the kind of company I was building. Maven started as a solo venture. Today, we’re women-founded, women-led, and now—beautifully—mom-powered. We’re raising babies and businesses. And it’s a gift. My purpose isn’t just in the work we do for others; it’s in creating a work culture that allows all of us to be present—for our clients and our families. That balance, that grace, that flexibility… it’s what makes this job a blessing.
So no, my purpose didn’t come from a job title or a win. It came from learning to detach from the outcome and anchor myself in intention. Maven exists because we believe great marketing should lift others up—and that includes the women doing the work behind the scenes.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
What I Do & What Makes It Special
Maven Marketing & Co. was born from a simple desire: to make great marketing more accessible to small business owners. I started the agency at my kitchen table, balancing big dreams with a small budget and even smaller baby naptimes. Over the past five years, that side hustle has grown into a full-service agency that supports 30+ brands across hospitality, retail, real estate, beauty, wellness, and beyond.
What makes Maven special isn’t just what we do—it’s how we do it. We’re a women-led team of marketers, strategists, creatives, and moms who genuinely care. We care about your message. Your audience. Your mission. But we also care about doing meaningful work in a way that feels human, sustainable, and flexible. Every client we take on becomes part of the Maven family, and our goal is always to provide intentional, reliable marketing that drives results while honoring your vision.
We don’t believe in cookie-cutter strategies. Our work is deeply collaborative, story-driven, and grounded in a belief that marketing should feel good—for the client, the audience, and the team doing the work.
What We’re Focused On
Right now, we’re in a beautiful season of refinement and expansion. We’re building stronger systems, investing in our team, and exploring new service offerings that align with our clients’ evolving needs. We’re launching a quarterly email series focused on tips, insights, and strategy for growing your brand with heart. We’re also expanding our hospitality partnerships and refining our influencer management program to support more brands in lifestyle and wellness spaces.
But more than anything, we’re focused on doing business with intention. We’re not chasing growth for growth’s sake—we’re chasing alignment. Brands that inspire us. Clients who trust us. Work that leaves everyone better than it found them.
What I’d Love Folks to Know
Maven isn’t just a marketing agency—it’s a movement toward sustainable success. We’re rewriting the rules about what a modern agency can look like and how it can feel to build something meaningful, both as a client and a team member.
Whether you’re a small business owner seeking support, a fellow creative looking for collaboration, or someone just rooting for a good story—we’re so glad you’re here.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The Three Most Important Qualities in My Journey
1. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) – Especially Empathy & Intuition
Being able to read the room—whether it’s a client call, a team check-in, or even just a moment of silence—has been a superpower. Marketing is about human connection, and building a business is no different. EQ has helped me create a team culture where people feel safe to be honest and creative, and it’s helped me serve clients in ways that go beyond just metrics or deliverables.
Advice:
If you’re early in your journey, focus on listening more than speaking. Ask thoughtful questions. Pay attention to tone, timing, and how people feel—not just what they say. You’ll become someone others trust, and trust is the real currency of this business.
2. Strategic Flexibility
In the beginning, I thought having a perfect plan was the key to success. But the truth is, everything will change—clients pivot, algorithms update, teams grow, life happens. The real skill is learning how to adapt with strategy, not without it. Being flexible doesn’t mean winging it; it means recalibrating without losing your vision.
Advice:
Start by learning to separate ego from ideas. Build plans, yes—but make room for evolution. Trust your gut when it’s time to shift. The best ideas often show up after your original plan doesn’t go the way you thought it would.
3. Boundaries + Knowing Your Worth
This one took me the longest. For a while, I thought that in order to be successful, I had to say yes to everything. But I’ve learned that protecting your energy, your time, and your team is what actually sustains your success. You can’t serve well when you’re stretched too thin.
Advice:
Practice saying no. Set your rates and your office hours with confidence. You teach people how to work with you by how you show up for yourself. You don’t have to prove your worth—you just have to honor it.
I’ve learned that entrepreneurship is less about mastering one perfect skill and more about learning how to stay grounded in who you are, even as everything around you shifts. Lead with heart, stay curious, and remember—your way is the right way if it’s rooted in purpose.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Without question—my dad.
He’s not only been my biggest supporter, but also my most trusted mentor. As a fellow entrepreneur, he understood the highs, the lows, and all the messy in-betweens long before I ever started Maven Marketing. Growing up, I watched him build something from scratch, take risks, navigate setbacks, and still come home with a deep sense of purpose. That shaped me more than I realized at the time.
When I started my own business, he was the person I called when I landed my first client… and also the one I called when I thought I wanted to quit. He listens without judgment, gives advice without ego, and reminds me constantly to zoom out and focus on the big picture. He’s taught me that success isn’t just about the work—it’s about who you become while doing it.
More than anything, my dad gave me permission to believe I could do this. That I could lead with heart, build something meaningful, and define success on my own terms. Having that kind of encouragement from someone who’s walked the path before me has made all the difference.
