Meet Miranda Cleark

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miranda Cleark a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Miranda, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I definitely get my resilience from my mom, growing up I watched her work a job as a over night nurse, while going back to school in the mornings so she could give me and my brother a better life and it never went unnoticed. When it was time for us to go to school she was just getting home from her shift. Her work ethic is something I hoped I inherited and I love that woman.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I started out not knowing what to do in high school everyone is always asking what do you want to study in college? I felt overwhelmed and pressured. My mom was such a good example of hard work and dedication, that woman would work overnights as a nurse come home and get us ready for school awhile still in school completing another degree. She is where all my inspiration comes from. I quickly chose college and dropped out after a semester. I came home tried again and it didn’t work. I went to cosmology school and hated hair. I felt like I wasn’t ever going to find what I wanted to do. I went back to college and completed some classes but it still wasn’t enough,l wasn’t sold. I always enjoyed makeup and skincare so I remember at cosmetology school they had an esthetician program and believe it or not that stuck! Finally! I found something I wanted to do. Waxing is what really caught my eye. After years at a large company that taught me a lot, I wasn’t happy anymore I didn’t feel fulfilled. I didn’t know where to go from there. I knew I was destined for greater things. After 8 years I started to look into becoming my own boss. I finally did it. My clients are like my family. I love them I love their support and their loyalty. I pride myself in my relationship with my clients. I’m always accepting new clients!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Honestly my Esthetics license taught me about skin and everything involved in it but I really got my skills from working for a large company over the course of 8 years doing full body speed waxing. I learned a lot in those 8 years and found my love for waxing and my niche. My advice to anyone wanting to start is definitely get your esthetics license figure out if you want to do facials, makeup, waxing or all. A lot of estheticians prefer one or the other. I do majority full body waxing. I do makeup as well and lash lifts and tints and brow shaping and tint. My advice is to find your niche and focus on that and becoming the best at that! Find a company where you can learn and practice and get training. Then when you feel like you have enough of that and you have a following that’s when I would go for becoming your own boss and having your own salon. The best choice you can make. I’ve received the Finalist awards for the STL ALIST Awards the first year and a half since having my own business and I couldn’t of done it without the support and loyalty of my clients.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My mom gave me start up money to start my own business. She has been my rock and the one who believes anything I put my mind to I can succeed.
