We recently connected with Miranda Torres and have shared our conversation below.
Miranda, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Out of all of the numerous challenges there are while being an artist, that is the most consistent trial…
I find myself constantly questioning my own visions, mental state and overall meaning as a creative. Am I creating something for me? Is that enough? Am I creating enough for others? Is that okay, if not? Am I creative enough at all?
I have battles with my own curiosity over the thought: Am I truly an artist with creative skills and ideas-or am I just another copy and paste to another’s creativity that has already been done before? How do I find my own true creativity? And then sustain that throughout my daily existence as an artist?
It seems I have a lot more questions on the matter than answers.
But one way I know for certain that I can answer this question is that I know no matter what, I must keep myself and my creativity alive because as I was born, I have no other choice but to do so.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a visual, studio artist first and foremost, who creates fine art of all mediums and varieties.
As a freelance artist, I have participated in and displayed in many showcases, festivals and galleries within the Arkansas and Dallas art communities.
I am also a sole-proprietor of my own online brand and art-focused business where I sell my original work and freelance by commissions.
I take all facets of my chaotic realities and alter them within my art pieces using color and light.
Throughout each moment in my life, I create art with the inspirations and motivations that I receive from each unique experience.
Without art; I feel utterly lost.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Firstly, since high school, I have spent many years and currently spend valuable time under the mentorship of a local Arkansas studio, Studio 7. My mentors there guided me (still guide me) into becoming the artist I am to this very day. They are the reason(s) I became a creative.
Secondly, while in Dallas, I acquired immense experience in the floral industry under the employment of Dr. Delphinium Designs and Events, Inc. Where I discovered my true passion and connection to creative floral and plant design. Along with greenhouse plant care knowledge and marketing/sales development through networking and social media. Mostly, this long-term experience(s) taught me the true importance of business etiquette, drive and possibilities when you truly apply yourself and dive into the endless and sublime abyss.
And lastly-but most importantly, my family. They have all been the base supporters of my artistic life journey through and through. Each of them have taught me how to be my true self-because they are where my very make was created. But they also allow(ed) me to thrive and discover new parts of myself even if it is far from their reach. I would not be here or be who I truly am without them all.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Honestly, in order to juggle a full-time day job, maintain healthy relationships with family and friends and a partner, grow as an artist and develop as a business owner from square one-the three major things that I can put into just simple words for this kind of feeling and obstacle:
Breathe. Focus. Hydrate.
