Meet Misha Belski

We recently connected with Misha Belski and have shared our conversation below.

MIsha, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

The journey to discover my purpose took about 30 years of my life. In Brooklyn I discovered my love for Hip-Hop. I grew up in the projects in Coney Island in the 90s. Because of this, Hip-hop has just always been a part of my existence.

When I moved to Philly I discovered my love for music. Philly is a diverse musical city. A lot of people don’t know this but Disco was invented in Philly around the 60s. There are Jazz clubs, Punk venues, EDM halls, Hip Hop Cyphers, I even went to an underground noise-music show. If the genre exists, there’s a place for that genre in Philly.

During middle school, I picked up a violin. That was the first instrument I’ve ever learned. This got me into string instruments in general and now I mostly play the bass but if it has a string, I can probably figure out how to play it. During high school I joined the Punk Rock band. We started out as “The Turkletuns” and then slowly evolved into Tortuga. We got to perform at a few colleges and venues, but the band devolved once everyone went to college. I hear they are still making music and I hope those dudes are doing well.

When I got into college, I really went hard into my music. I linked up with this group in Philly called Ghost Ghang. They are a collective of rappers, producers, artists, etc. that hosted a weekly cypher at the bell tower in Temple University. Rappers from all over the city and some from out of state would come to these cyphers. These Cyphers and beats from Clams Casino and Spaceghostpurp (which were hot at the time) made me want to create hip hop beats.

While I was in college, I was working as a wedding photographer, I liked editing videos, I liked drawing cartoons. In general I had many interests and music was just in the background at that point in my life. It would take me another decade to figure out that music is my purpose because I was distracted by all my interests. But as the years went on, slowly one thing after another would fade away until there was only music left.

When I finally made it up to Denver I decided that music is my purpose. When i”m in the studio I feel like I’m on another planet. Nothing else can make me feel the way creating music makes me feel. Its what I was put on his planet to do and and I’m not going to stop until I’m gone

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Currently I’m focused on growing my brand as a Music Producer and Artist.

Recently I started working on music outside of hip hop. Working on beats allowed me to hone my skills and now I want to expand into making music that just comes from my head. I’m currently working on a small EP of just my original music. I want to work outside of sampling and make everything from scratch. Be on the lookout for that in 2025 on most streaming platforms.

I’m still making beats and probably wont stop making beats. There are so many beautiful samples that the world needs to hear and I’m going to continue searching for that magic. Any artist looking for instrumentals please take a look at my playlist of available beats on SoundCloud. Just search up Outerphunk.

I offer recording, producing and mastering services. Any local artist looking to record for a reasonable price, please contact me on my Instagram @Outerphunk.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. I feel like knowing the history of music helps a lot with giving you a reason to create what you are creating. Knowing where you music came from and why it was created can really help with creativity and purpose.

2. This might be controversial but knowing basic music theory is a must for anyone creating music especially in a collaborative setting. It’s easier to communicate ideas instead of constantly explaining what you’re trying to say.

3. Learn your instrument. Whether its the DAW, voice, instrument, MPC etc. LEARN IT!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

There are two things I’m looking for.

1. A guitar player.. Someone who has funk experience but also likes to do “weird” things on their guitar. If you read “weird” and know exactly what I mean, please contact me.

2. I’m looking for a hip-hop artist to make an album. I make east-coast-style beats and I’d like someone who has something original to say. I want their lyrics to make me feel a variety of emotions (sadness, happiness, unease, etc.)
