We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mishiko Sulakauri a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Mishiko with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I got my work ethic from the streets of Tbilisi, especially from the subcultural levels, where you need to act permanently to get the result.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My arts career has a streetart background, where I found my self in arts and discovered all the other medias to use to express or tell the stories about my tiny life. when I was a kid, started to paint Lambs all over the city of Tbilisi, Georgia. Soon, become a shepherd of a huge sheep herd. The character viral and I really started to collaborate with bunch of international/national brands and travel for different arts events. I never quit painting them, meanwhile I got desire to understand other sides of art world. Thats how I slowly stepped to Fine arts league and did lots of shows around the globe.
( p.s. group show including me will open on 3rd of may till 30th of may at CH64 Gallery pop up at High Line Nine Galleries
508 W 28th Street
New York, NY )
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One of the most important qualities I have was tought by my city, where I was grown. Tbilisi’s eclectic vibes and all the architectural mix of ancient 5th century building, soviet brutalism, and modern ones make this interesting overlaping, and that what exactly im run by, these exact layers tought me the ways of my arts development.
My advice would be to never take an advise from anyone ( even from me ), only advises can be taken from your journeys of obsession. Thats how I did, only belived in creating art, good or bad I never cared, but somehow it found its way so yeah…
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Biggest challage was always to beat your own record. Thats what I try every time before and after I finish my projects to analyze peoples reaction and try to be open with them. As I dont exist without them, as my art will not be active without spectators.
