Meet Misty Johnson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Misty Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Misty, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

One way I keep my creativity going is trying new patterns from crazy quilt ideas to new purse patterns. With doing new patterns it makes me think outside the box a lot in styles and colors. My children are always helping on coming up with new ideas with keeping me updated on what young adults are into at the time.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I have always been a crafty person. When my daughter was a senior she want me to make her quilt for college. Then covoid hit with working as the local school nurse school shut down I needed something to do so I started her a quilt. After doing hers many other family members wanted one too. Within the next year I was sitting at home and thought could I make a purse went looking for patterns. When I got it completed I was proud of what I did. Summer of 2023 my cousins opened a little shop in my town and asked me to make some products to sell. We’ll here I’m year later with doing custom order selling on esty and now in a shop on the main street of town. My husband and children are my biggest supports of me doing my own business and tell me all the time to keep going. I NEVER thought I would be doing something like this but sewing making anything from quilts, bags apron to purses would be my way of stress release I would have laughed but it has become a new passion in my life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think watching my mother sew clothes when little is the biggest one with out her teaching me basics I would even know how to sew. I would say I’m still early in my journey but what I have learn so far is to have self confidence in your self .

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My dad taught me my work ethic all the time growing up I don’t remember him not working. Many times I watched him work several jobs where my mom could always be at mine and my bothers school activities. From my mother is all my crafting skills she could paint, sew, and take anything and make it pretty. She always was doing crafty thing and I w I uld be right there with her.
