Meet Mitch Thiem

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mitch Thiem. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mitch below.

Mitch, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

Nurture

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Mitch Thiem here, founder and CEO of Minor Chores—the first platform that transforms neighborhood chores into entrepreneurial opportunities for kids, teens, and adults. Unlike traditional job or task apps, Minor Chores is specifically designed to cultivate entrepreneurs’ business acumen and creativity, allowing them to manage their side hustles, keep 100% of their earnings, set goals, and learn valuable skills not taught in schools.

At Minor Chores, we’re about more than just completing tasks; we’re focused on nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit found in many of the world’s most successful business leaders—most of whom started young. When parents sign up, they create a profile for their child, who can customize their service rates and offerings, choosing from various suggested chores. Entrepreneurs on the platform get access to our entrepreneurial academy, free marketing flyers and business cards to help them acquire valued customers. Drawing from my successful childhood ventures—from poop scooping to trash can cleaning and lawn mowing—We’ve compiled over 30 business ideas for entrepreneurs to get started. If they have their own unique idea, we encourage them to pursue it by creating customized services on their profile rate card, which allows their customers to view and book them.

What sets us apart is our commitment to ensuring that these young entrepreneurs keep 100% of what they earn—no service fees are taken. This model enhances their earnings, builds trust, and encourages more meaningful business interactions within the community.

Since launching in May of 2024, Minor Chores has gained traction, relying solely on word-of-mouth without the need for traditional advertising although we plan to do that within a few months. Our entrepreneurial subscription model approach allows us to expand nationally, enabling any kid or adult in the United States to start earning quickly by acquiring a few customers and potentially dominating their local market—creating a snowball effect of success and community engagement.

We’re excited about the future as we continue to empower the next generation of business leaders through real-world experience and success.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on my journey, I realized that the three pivotal skills that shaped my path were hard work, determination, and financial responsibility. These were instilled in me during my childhood, thanks in part to a challenge my father and mother posed during a pivotal moment. Diagnosed with dyslexia at age 10, I learned early on from my parents that to achieve, I had to earn my own way and value hard work. This lesson led my brother and me to start our own neighborhood business, Poop Patrol, Inc. – “Make Every Step a Good One!”, which taught us the essentials of entrepreneurship.

From knocking on doors to handling our earnings, we embraced the values of persistence and financial savvy. We saved 20% of everything we earned, planting seeds for future financial stability. This hands-on early experience taught me that success isn’t handed to you; it’s something you work toward every day. These formative experiences inspired me to create Minor Chores, to give parents and their children an easier way to build character, learn financial stewardship, and develop the resilience they need to navigate life’s challenges.

My advice for those early in their entrepreneurial journey is straightforward: embrace hard work, remain loyal to your goals, and be disciplined about your finances. These foundational principles are timeless and crucial in any endeavor. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to pivot your career, nurturing these skills will pave the way for long-term success and fulfillment.

By sharing my story, I hope to inspire parents to encourage their children towards entrepreneurship, knowing that the skills and relationships they cultivate now could profoundly impact their futures. At Minor Chores, we’re passionate about equipping the next generation with the tools to succeed in business and all areas of life.
