Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mitchell Drath. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mitchell, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
As a child, I’ve always had a vivid imagination. Cartoons like Tom and Jerry helped to sow the seeds of my purpose as an adolescent. Listening to the music as it told the story along with the visual aspect always fascinated me as a child. Musical storytelling has always been central to my love for music and has guided me after many years of performing, recording, mixing and mastering music. I continue to use my imagination as the cornerstone of my purpose to help artists, creatives and musicians reach their fullest potential.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Mitchell Drath, I began my musical journey at the age of 12. I began playing trombone in my 6th grade band and I knew that I would dedicate the rest of my life to music and exploring my imagination. My father is a preacher and my mother and my family frequently went to church. Playing instruments in the church band helped to broaden my palette as a musician very early in my life. I began playing drums in church as well playing trombone in high school. Ultimately, my musical experiences earned me music scholarship to South Carolina State University which is a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
While at South Carolina State University, I started my music production company SCreamTeam Productions at 19 years old. I went on to make music for the students at the school. I reinvested money that I had for school in myself to pay for the musical equipment needed to continue to produce music and support myself while in college.
In 2015, I earned my Bachelors of Science in Music Education and moved to California to teach music. During my tenure as a middle school band and strings director, I earned my Masters In Education, Curriculum and Instruction form California State Fresno. After teaching music for 5 years, I set out on a journey to open my own studio and begin to pursue music full time.
At the age of 33, I have 21 years of experience in music as a performer, recording, mixing and mastering engineer and educator. My company, SCreamTeam Productions aims, to centralize all of my musical experiences to provide an environment for artists to be collaborative, creative and free to express themselves.
At SCreamTeam Productions, our goal is to create a sonic experience. We are currently working with Mxrc Clark, Sam Stacie, Leven and Lord Nelson. Each of these artist have their own sonic experiences which helps the artist to build a sustainable following. While working in the studio, we create content and marketing to help with brand development along with the music. Please go to www.screamteam.productions for more details.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My faith in God, discipline and my love for music were the most impactful elements of my journey. I approach music with a joy and love that has helped me learn how to love other elements in my life like my wife and my friends and family. The love and faith that I have in my life permeates to all other facets of my life and is not just designated for music only. I think that is one of the major soft skills that is needed to be a professional and work with high level creatives.
The advice that I have for anyone that wants to develop professionally, is to remember that its free to smile, it’s free to love and to pour all of yourself into whatever you love. Use love and high vibrational positive minded thought and speech to be the center of your life and God will take care of everything else.
How would you describe your ideal client?
An Ideal client is someone who is open-minded, positive and has clear and defined goals for themselves personally and musically. My goal is to work with career-oriented artists who see themselves having a 25 year career in music. Our Goal at SCreamTeam Productions is to facilitate their dreams and provide any necessary goods or services need to fulfill their goals.
