Meet Mitchell & Michael Anderson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mitchell & Michael Anderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Mitchell & Michael, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

We’ve always considered ourselves a blessed family. We grew up surrounded by love, faith, and parents who taught us to be grateful for what we had. Even though we didn’t have a lot of extra money, we never felt like we were without — but it did mean you learned early on to take care of what you owned and fix things yourself.

We both started working when we were 14, and that experience changed everything. Earning our own money at that age gave us a real appreciation for the value of a dollar and the effort behind it. If we wanted something, we saved for it, and if something needed to get done, we didn’t wait for someone else to handle it.

Our parents led by example. They worked hard for everything our family had, and their attitude wasn’t about complaining — it was about showing up, being thankful, and doing right by your family and community. That kind of quiet leadership leaves a mark.

Being twins only reinforced it. Growing up side by side pushes you in a different way, we are very competitive, but also accountable to each other. And with one of us becoming a firefighter, that sense of responsibility and service became an even bigger part of our lives.

Now, as dads and business owners here in Tulsa, that foundation is still what drives us. We feel called to work hard for our families, the people who trust us in their homes, and the community we love. Our work ethic comes from faith, family, gratitude, and the belief that you honor your blessings by putting in the effort.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Tulsa Twins started with the two of us doing what we’ve always done, using our hands, solving problems, and showing up for people in our community. What began as a small side project helping neighbors with holiday lighting has grown into a full-service local business that serves families, businesses, and neighborhoods all across the Tulsa area.

What makes Tulsa Twins special isn’t just the work we do — it’s how we do it. People know us as the kind of guys who will treat their home like our own. When you invite us onto your roof, into your yard, or onto your property, you’re trusting us around your family, your memories, and the place you rest your head. We don’t take that lightly. Whether it’s Christmas light installations, custom lighting displays, or expansion into year-round services, the goal is always the same: serve people well, create something they’re proud of, and build relationships along the way.

As parents ourselves, we’re always trying to make the holidays as magical as possible for our kids and getting to install lights for other families lets us be part of making that same magic for them too. It’s one of our favorite parts of the job.

One of the most exciting parts for us has been how Tulsa has embraced the company. We’ve built this business on word of mouth, repeat customers, and community support — no big investor, no fancy launch. Just two brothers, a ladder, and a reputation to protect.

We’re also growing in ways we never expected. We recently started offering a HandyTwin monthly handyman membership for households in the Tulsa Metro where we come by monthly to help check off their honey do lists for them, allowing them to spend more time with their family’s. We’ve expanded into commercial holiday lighting for local businesses and dealerships, and we’re continuing to add new services based on what our community needs.

At the end of the day, Tulsa Twins is more than a job to us — it’s an opportunity to make our hometown a little brighter, literally and figuratively. We’re proud to be raising our families here, serving the people here, and building something that reflects the values we grew up with: faith, hard work, honesty, and community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three things have made the biggest impact on our journey thus far: work ethic, relationships, and adaptability.

Work Ethic:
For us, work ethic isn’t just an individual trait — it’s something our whole family lives out together. There have been plenty of nights where we’re at the table bulbing Christmas light wire with our one and tw year-olds next to us “helping”, thinking it’s the most fun job in the world. Some of our favorite memories with our kids have been while we are all working together as a family, and it’s keeping the little cousins close as they grow up side by side in this family business. For anyone just getting started, don’t overlook the small, unglamorous moments, that’s where the foundation is built!

Relationships:
Our business was built on word of mouth, trust, and treating people right — and that starts with our own families. Mitchell’s wife, Aldyn, has taken on all of our marketing and administrative work while raising a three-year-old and a newborn. Michael’s wife, Ashli, runs errands all around town ensuring we have adequate inventory and makes sure their little girl is taken care.

We also have to shout out our parents and extended family. They’ve shown up to help finish jobs that took longer than expected, always share our social media posts, and tell their friends about us any chance they get. That kind of support is something you can’t buy.

Our advice to anyone early in their journey: be the kind of person people want to stand behind. Call people back, shake hands, look them in the eye, and follow through. The right relationships will grow your business faster than any marketing budget.

Adaptability:
Nothing grows if you stay rigid. We started with Christmas lights and before long we were adding services, taking on bigger projects, and finding new ways to serve families and businesses. Not every plan works, but being willing to pivot, learn new skills, and say “yes” when opportunity shows up has made all the difference. If you’re early in your journey, don’t wait to feel ready — learn as you go and adjust as needed.

Those three things — working hard, valuing people, and staying flexible — have shaped who we are as business owners and as men. You don’t need special training to start building those habits. You just need to decide you’re going to do it.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

We can’t pretend we built this on our own. The people around us have shaped this business just as much as we have.

Our wives have played a huge role in allowing us to grow the way we have. Mitchell’s wife, Aldyn, has taken on all of our marketing and administrative work while raising a three-year-old and a newborn. She was literally working on client quotes while she was in labor this past July, and she was back to helping—by her own choice—just two days after delivering their baby. She also comes out to jobs to take photos and videos so we have professional content to share.

Michael’s wife, Ashli, is constantly stepping in behind the scenes too. She makes sure their daughter is taken care of when the days run long and she’s always willing to run out and grab last-minute materials or supplies when we need them. Having that kind of support at home allows us to focus fully on serving our customers and building the business.

Our parents have also been a big part of this journey. They’ve shown up to help finish jobs when they ran longer than expected, they share our posts, they brag on us to their friends, and they treat Tulsa Twins like something the whole family is part of.

And being twins has shaped us from day one. We’ve pushed each other our whole lives and there’s a built-in sense of accountability that makes you show up, follow through, and not leave the other hanging.

Anything people see from the outside—whether it’s growth, work ethic, or confidence—comes from that kind of foundation. You might run a business with your hands, but you build it with your family, your faith, and your community.
