Meet Mithila Patki

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mithila Patki. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Mithila, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

We often forget that all of us are born unique. We are special in our own ways. But we still try to fit in and be a part of the crowd. Success comes from accepting yourself and being true to yourself. Over the years, I learnt that one needs to connect with one’s inner self to understand who they truly are. Once you find that connection, you start believing in yourself and people value your authenticity.
There have been several occasions in my journey- be it as a first-generation immigrant, an international student or a women entrepreneur- where I struggled and success was out of my reach. I have had my own fair shares of setbacks. Being resilient, focused and finding a sense of higher purpose makes your way easier. For those who find yourself in such a position, I would say that don’t let any failures set you back. Learn from your failures, take criticism as an opportunity to learn and be persistent. No one can stop you from being successful.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a general dentist with a background in public health and healthcare administration. After practicing clinical dentistry for several years, I felt the need to address dental anxiety in a relaxed spa like environment. I wanted to rebrand Dentistry itself. That’s how Dazzle Dental was formed. At Dazzle Dental, we are more than just a dental practice—we are a haven of comfort and care. Our team is dedicated to providing a spa-like experience to patients of all ages, ensuring your journey to optimal oral health is both pleasant and relaxing. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I truly believe in lifelong learning. I love acquiring new skills by attending continuing education. I think there are specific skills that can be learnt by anyone wanting to succeed. Working on being resilient, disciplined and patient has helped me in my journey.
Resilience: Success and failures are a part of life. Failure can be daunting but inevitable. If we don’t fail, we cannot learn and move forward in life. How we deal with failure determines our success. Being resilient is our ability to bounce back from these failures.
Discipline: Weather its making your bed every morning, tidying up kitchen before bedtime, or just keeping up with deadlines at work- all these activities teach you to be disciplined. No matter what you do, it’s how consistently you finish your task matters. It is the consistency that makes you disciplined. Research shows that being disciplined in daily tasks is correlated with being successful in future.
Patience: After practicing dentistry in India for a few years, it took me another five years to be able to practice clinical care in the United States. Being patient and persistent towards my goal helped achieve what I wanted. As correctly said- Patience is a virtue!

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

Growing up as kids, getting a degree was not optional but it was a baseline. I think the supportive environment my parents created for us had a huge impact on my growth. I hope I can do the same for my kids. Life is a learning journey and creating this learning environment and supporting it throughout is the most important thing parents can do for their kids.
