We recently connected with Mo Regalado and have shared our conversation below.
Mo, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
This is a great question. There are so many of us who find ourselves in spaces where we are underrepresented.
I see this as both a challenge and an opportunity. A challenge because your voice and ideas are not often heard, and if they are, it’s through someone else’s mouth. That can be very frustrating but I learned over time that as long as my idea was implemented, I was okay with that. I also believe it’s an opportunity. I have the ability to change and shape what others think and perceive me, and anyone who looks like me, to be.
When I find myself in these situations, I sit back and assess the room. You have to know who the key players are and what their body language is saying versus the words they use. I know I’m there for a reason and I like to remind myself I deserve to be there.
The next thing I do is ask questions. People love to talk about themselves and if I can find a common connection with another person by listening intentionally, then I know I have fostered a relationship that will grow in the future.
It’s not always easy. There have been plenty of times where I have been overlooked and underestimated, but those instances have brought out the fight in me to prove my worth. When you’re the only one, you might get underestimated, but it’s all that more satisfying when you get the chance to surprise them.
Being the “only on in the room” has taught me how to embrace my skilss, amplify my voice, and make space fro my thoughts and ideas. If I can leave just one key takeaway it’s this: you own your power. Don’t just take up space in the room, own it!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I founded MoVO Media Marketing in 2012. Initially, I started out combining my two passions – Voice Over work (I worked in radio for many years), websites, and social media. Afer working in the industry with various companies and organizations, in 2021 I niched down to Commercial Real Estate. I got Storybrand Certified in 2022, and it’s been an incredible experience. My company one liner is: We do social for busy commercial real estate professionals.
So often, CRE Professionals know they should be on social media, but they don’t know how to post, when to post, or where to post. They get frustrated. They start and stop. They know the value of social but they don’t know to execute. That’s where I come in. We curate and create content tailored specifically to them and their story. We help them clarify their message and craft compelling stories. And then we handle all the details so they can get back to what they do best: closing deals.
For me social media is all about building relationships, creating top of mind awareness, and growing a community. This all translates to business opportunities for my clients. And there’s nothing more rewarding than getting a text message or email from a client letting me know that someone listened to their podcast or read a post and becuase of that, they now have a new lead in their pipeline.
At MoVO Media Marketing, we focus on organic growth strategies. It takes creativity and authenticity to build a brand that lasts and that resonates. We offer social media management, podcast production, website design, and automation tools to help make marketing your message simpler and more effective.
As for what’s new, I’m thrilled about a couple of projects we have in the works. First, we’re expanding our educational offerings. I’ll be teaching more workshops and creating resources to help professionals take charge of their digital presence—even if they’re starting from zero. Second, I’m incredibly excited about our new social media scheduling platform, which simplifies content management for busy professionals. And finally, we’re doubling down on helping CRE teams and professionals grow their LinkedIn presence, which has become such a powerful tool for thought leadership and connection in that space.
At the heart of it all, my mission is simple: I want to make social media less intimidating and more impactful for the people I work with. My clients have the stories and I get to amplify them. They have what they need to succeed; they just need someone to show them the right strategy to bring it to life.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’d say three things really shaped my journey: resilience, adaptability, and humility. You’re not born with these skills. They are often taught and learned through very hard lessons, failure, and heartbreak.
Building anything—whether it’s a business, a brand, or a career—comes with its fair share of challenges. There were moments when I questioned everything, but resilience taught me to push through. It’s about not letting fear of failure stop you from showing up, even when things don’t go as planned. For those just starting out, my advice is simple: learn to see obstacles as opportunities. When you hit a roadblock, ask yourself, ‘What’s this teaching me?’ Every setback is a stepping stone if you let it be.
Being adaptable is such a power move. Things change. People change. Situations change. Trends change. What worked yesterday may not work today, especially in social media. Being adaptable has been critical to staying ahead and staying relevant. My advice for anyone early in their journey is to lean into curiosity. Read, take courses, follow people in your industry who are innovating, and don’t be afraid to try new things.
Learning to ask for help—and accepting it—has been one of the most impactful lessons of my career. There’s so much pressure to have it all figured out, but the truth is, none of us do. The sooner you can drop the ego and say, ‘I need guidance’ or ‘I don’t know the answer,’ the faster you’ll grow. For those just starting out, my advice is to surround yourself with people who inspire you, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Mentors, colleagues, even friends—they’re all part of your journey, and leaning on them isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of strength.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Gary Vaynerchuk’s ‘Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook’ has been a game-changer for me—not just in how I approach social media, but in how I approach my business and life as a whole. This book didn’t just teach me strategies for creating content; it fundamentally changed how I think about connecting with people online and delivering value first. It’s what started me on my journey to full-time social media management.
One of the biggest takeaways was Gary’s philosophy of ‘give, give, give, then ask.’ It’s about leading with value—showing up for your audience with content that educates, entertains, or inspires before ever asking for anything in return. That shift in mindset was huge for me. It reminded me that successful marketing isn’t about selling; it’s about building relationships and trust over time.
The book didn’t just resonate with me professionally; it hit me personally, too. Gary’s words, ‘Stop looking back, it’s fcking with your neck,’* were a wake-up call. For so long, I would second-guess my decisions or dwell on things that didn’t go as planned. That line reminded me that growth doesn’t happen in the rearview mirror—it happens when you focus on what’s ahead.
And then there’s ‘Stop doing sht you hate.’* That one changed everything. I realized that I was spending too much time on things that didn’t light me up or align with where I wanted to go. That piece of advice pushed me to focus on what I love—helping people build their brands, create meaningful content, and grow their digital presence—and let go of everything else.
This book was more than a resource for learning content strategy; it was a mindset reset. It taught me to stop overthinking, trust my instincts, and show up authentically for the people I want to serve. If you haven’t read it yet, I can’t recommend it enough—it’s like having Gary himself give you a push to take your game to the next level.
